How much improvement can I expect from a larger dish?

Just a quick update for those who are interested. I installed the 30" dish yesterday and am now getting signal strengths of low 80's to 100 on most transponders. My lowest reading is a 69. Thanks again for the feedback.

How much improvement can I expect from a larger dish?

Also, since this appears to be my only option, I might as well go with the 30" and hope for the best. Does anyone have any recommendations of where to buy just the 30" dish? I assume I can use my existing LNB as long as the new dish has a rectangular LNB mount?

How much improvement can I expect from a larger dish?

Thanks for the input. I'll definitely have to give a larger dish a try. Unfortunately, since the trees are not on my property (not even close) I'm stuck.

How much improvement can I expect from a larger dish?

Hi, I have an 18" dish installed in the only spot on my property that I can get any signal at all because of trees. Even that is not completely unobstructed. In the winter when no leaves are on the trees I get signal strengths between high 70's to high 90's. About three or four weeks ago the...

BEV 5800 - Guide and search problems

Lately I seem to be getting an unusual number of "info not available" descriptions on the guide. Also, if I do a search, even for a program that I can see on the guide, the search doesn't find anything. Unplugging the receiver for approx. 20 or 25 minutes and then plugging it back in solves...

    Recent ExpressVu signal problems

Not since I got the replacement 5800. I was getting the same results with the new LNB I bought so I returned it.

There is no switch. I'm using a single dual-LNB.

    Recent ExpressVu signal problems

This is driving me nuts  If either the 5800 or 3100 receiver is connected by itself, it works fine, but if I connect both, they both start acting flaky. They get "searching for satellite" messages, some channels show nothing but a black screen, the receiver won't turn off with the...

    18" dish vs. 20" dish

Actually they do, but since the the arm that the LNB attaches to is shorter, I'm not sure it would be positioned at the correct focal point for the new pan. I think I'll leave well enough alone. Thanks for the feedback.

    18" dish vs. 20" dish

Could I possibly just swap the dish and leave the existing lnb which is not offset or does the LNB need to be further from the dish?

    18" dish vs. 20" dish

Just wondering if it's worth my while to replace my 18" dish with a 20". My signal seems to be plenty strong but I thought it might help with rain fade. I live in northern Virginia and subscribe to BE. I have an extra dish from the last receiver I bought (they never seem to have just the...

    Recent ExpressVu signal problems

Well, I got the replacement 5800 and it works. When I spoke to the BE rep on the phone he said it was probably just a coincidence that the receiver stopped working around that time. He said that the only software bug they were aware of was that the PVR's would not turn themselves on to...

Thanks. I never had a problem with the old one until the latest software upgrade. I guess they don't believe in testing.

    Recent ExpressVu signal problems

For anyone who has been following this thread and is still interested, I just got off the phone with an Expressvu tech support rep who finally concluded that there was no way they could troubleshoot my 5800 receiver with me over the phone. That's what I tried to tell the first rep I spoke to...

    Recent ExpressVu signal problems

My 5800 is definitely in need of repair. I've tried it with both the old card and the new card, various cables and after rebooting numerous times. It just freezez trying to aquire satellite signal. I can't even check signal strength or get to the info page.

    Recent ExpressVu signal problems

I'd be happy with a refurbished unit if I could walk in and swap it right away. I'm driving up in Wed. and back on Sat. If I have to leave it with them I probably won't be able to pick it up for at least a couple of months.

    Recent ExpressVu signal problems

Understood. At this point I'm more annoyed at the prospect of possibly having to take the 5800 back up and leaving it to be repaired. By the time they repair it and I'm able to make another trip to go pick it up, 3 or 4 months will have passed. When I upgraded to my first 3100 I got it back...

I did call to activate both cards but I'm not sure if the signal they sent to the 5800 and new card ever made it. I'll try your suggestions though. YMMV?

Jaspear, Thanks for the information. It does seem likely that the new software was the root cause of my problems but still seems strange that the 5800 was adversely affecting the 3100. I may have also added to the problem by trying to swap to the new card after it started acting up. I've...

    Recent ExpressVu signal problems

I finally managed to find some time to do some more testing and it's starting to look like the problem is with the 5800 receiver which was also affecting the 3100. When I tried testing each receiver separately (without the other being connected), the 3100 worked fine (no more signal being...

Do you mean by unplugging them for at least 1/2 hour? I've tried that several times but no change.

    Recent ExpressVu signal problems

Actually, the run from the dish to where I connected to the RG59 is only about 50' but the RG59 runs along the side and back of the house before entering the basement and going to the receivers. The total length from dish to receivers is probably just over 100'.

I'm using a single RCA dual LNB. Should I just replace the RG59 section or should I run two new cables, without connectors, from the dish to the receivers?
