DirecTV problem with some access cards?

I finally got my in-laws to tell me that when they came up north for the holidays they de-activated their DirecTV for two weeks and they happen to pick Jan. 6th to re-activate. Looks like that's how they got stuck in this mess. My wife told me that the latest word from my in-laws is that they...

DirecTV problem with some access cards?

Two days ago my in-laws in Flordia suddenly lost all of their DirecTV channels except for channel 100. DirecTV has been unable to resolve the problem so they are sending them a new access card. They also gave them Starz for free for 3 months to make up for the loss of service. My in-laws said...

Anyone else think these press releases are bad news?

Read these on some other boards... they're "on topic". :) SHVERA, DNS, LIL and You (Dan Collins/DBS Forums - 12/27/2004) D* HD Distant Nets qualifications/exceptions (Bschneider/AVS Forum - 12/31/2004) Seem like pretty accurate interpretations of the new SHVERA law. I said in my...

Anyone else think these press releases are bad news?

My Mits HD receiver is a set-top box, but one of the reasons I bought my Mits HDTV was because there was the option of the Promise Module when it was eventually released. However, it turned out to be too expensive to be a realistic option for me so I've never bought it. I called DirecTV on...

Anyone else think these press releases are bad news?

Yes, by non-local HD I meant ESPN-HD, HBO-HD, etc. From what I've read here and at AVS Forums and DBS Forums I'm pretty sure that they will remain MPEG2 for at least the next couple of years and if they go MPEG4 they'll probably simulcast them in MPEG2 for a while during the transition period...

Anyone else think these press releases are bad news?

Hey hancox. I've lurked here before but this news from DirecTV finally got me to post. I think the whole issue is boiling down to TiVo for me. Comcast might make some financial sense, but I don't want to leave DirecTV. If I can confirm that I'll be able to use the HD TiVo record non-local HD...

Anyone else think these press releases are bad news?

If I came off sounding like a cable fan that wasn't my intention. I am anything but a cable fan. I dropped Comcast cable as soon as I could convince my wife to get DirecTV (3 years ago when we bought our HDTV) and have been very happy. We love our DirecTV receiver w/TiVo. When I got a cable...

Anyone else think these press releases are bad news?

I missed that bit of news. That would certainly seem to increase the likelyhood of the non-local HD channels making the switch to MPEG4 faster than I expected. I've already begun rethinking my decision, however. I'm going to spend the weekend considering a switch to Comcast digital cable. I...

Anyone else think these press releases are bad news?

Ok, I thought it through last night. Here's my take on why it's not the worst thing for me to buy an HD10-250 right now. Currently I have a SAT-T60 DirecTiVo receiver and a Mitsubitshi SR-HD5 HD receiver. I'm considering the purchase for three reasons: Ability to record HD Better...

Anyone else think these press releases are bad news?

I'm still mulling over whether to follow through on my HR10-250 purchase. I called DirecTV just before Christmas and got the $250 programming credit pending the activation of an HR10-250. I almost bought one right after Christmas but decided to hold off until CES primarily because of the rumors...
