Worth it to get a DVD upconvert player?

Welp, I got a Toshiba SD-5970. The PQ is somewhere between 480p and 1080i as expected, but I don't like the blacks. There are some spots in Matrix that don't look that great, wish I could "tune" that away. Going to sit through another session of Video Essentials this weekend to fine tune...

Worth it to get a DVD upconvert player?

I don't know what superbit looks like even on a standard DVD player, as I currently don't have one. Checked around the web for either Samsung and Zenith, and they are hovering around $200. Any cheaper, I have to go with some online retailers I have never heard of.

Worth it to get a DVD upconvert player?

I heard a lot about that Zenith (in various online reviews), but also heard hardly anybody carries it anymore. Funny about the Superbit...I just bought Spiderman 2 in superbit, but can't enjoy it till i get me one of those upconvert DVD players :-) Thanks for the opinions.

Worth it to get a DVD upconvert player?

I just gave my DVD player to my sister, since her's broke. So i am going to buy something for myself. Is it worth it to buy an upconverting 1080i DVD player. Pic quality that much better on a 55" screen? What if I only have a 1 DVI and 1 Component? WiIll they work with either of these...

Apartment wants Dish down, or else they will evict!

Good point. That was my whole problem, if they require the dish to be hidden away, it will degrade reception. Everytime they ask me to move dish, there is a $100 charge. So, both issues addressed here. Luckily, it only took 1 additional trip from installer ($50) and dish is hidden and I get...

Apartment wants Dish down, or else they will evict!

Sister had 2 dishes, for international programming. Both below 1 meter. Still, these old fashioned silly "aesthetic" rules crack me up. I am imagining a bunch of 90 year old guys sitting in a stuffy room, in their stuffy suits talking about how ugly new technology is :p

Apartment wants Dish down, or else they will evict!

Well they haven't said anything yet. I may not have to do anything else. I will try to post pics tomorrow. The dish is completly hidden. The only way to "see" it is through a one inch seperation in balcony, even then, you cannot see it. I wasn going to write the FCC, but my roomate thinks...

Apartment wants Dish down, or else they will evict!

great news! Good news for me. An actual Dish installer came out on Sunday, re-positioned the dish behind the balcony, completly away from view of the street (I don't know how I am getting signal if its behind the balcony wall). No new holes were drilled, and the dish is now sitting on a...

Apartment wants Dish down, or else they will evict!

Thats a good point. My neighbor came by and told us they are making him take his down also. His is on a tripod, and is totally on the balcony, and no part of it is sticking out. However, you can "see" it from the common road. I get a feeling they care more about the aesthetics than safety or...

Apartment wants Dish down, or else they will evict!

I am not sure about that question. What's a "mast ground"? Sorry to be dumb... So I guess the answer is no, its not grounded. Still, dumb as hell, to evict because of a dish. The cost of living is high in Irvine (we pay about $1700/mo) and they will fill every apartment every month...

Apartment wants Dish down, or else they will evict!

Actually, according to the FCC, they don't have to provide a place, but they can't prevent me from having a dish. Section 207 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 directed the FCC to create the "Over the Air Reception Devices Rule". This rule is cited as 47 D.F.R. Section 1.4000 and has been...

Apartment wants Dish down, or else they will evict!

Anybody heard of this? My apartment gave us a notice that they will evict us if we don't take the Dish down. I read all the FCC regulations and also the lease agreement and they both say that I can have a Dish in the area for "exclusive use" by renter, such as a balcony. Our Dish is on a...

    Noob question regarding rear hookups

Thanks for the reply. I know 480p isn't HD, but watching a DVD using a s-video in 480i is disgusting. Colors are washed out, and it just looks crappy. Maybe I just have to do that...thanks.

    Noob question regarding rear hookups

I posted the same thing in 2 other forums, but got no answers. This one seems to be the biggest, so I hope better luck here...so here is the cut-n-paste I am getting Dish next week. They are giving me a HD receiver. On the back of the receiver, there is a DVI output and a component-out...
