    HBO/Cinemax Takedown

Well I am assuming no high speed internet otherwise one would just use Netflix streaming or if you like HBO Now etc. I also would say the days of satellite TV are starting to look like mail in DVDs with all these streaming services we have now. satellite TV and mail in DVDs being more for...

    HBO/Cinemax Takedown

I agree on Netflix and such but you may also have redbox kiosks around too which can give you instant rentals if you want popular recent movies.

TVJapan no longer available on Dish from April 2nd

Dish sent me an email yesterday about TV Japan being replaced with Family Gekijo which looks like it has rather old programming. We are moving at the end of May to a different city so will have to do without for a couple months. We're probably going to give PRISM a try.

TVJapan no longer available on Dish from April 2nd

Hmm on communities.dish.com a user responded: "TVJapan made an exclusive to directv Satellite contract. That’s literally all the details anyone can know, as they stay confidential." Maybe dare2be is right. Of course TVJapan is still on cable services like Comcast and what they call IPTV...

TVJapan no longer available on Dish from April 2nd

Dish added 623-03 which says: "Thank you for your interest in Japanese programming on DISH. We look forward to providing you with new Japanese programming soon!" Who else could it be? TV Japan from NHK is in some form or another global (under a few names). Only others I know are like...

TVJapan no longer available on Dish from April 2nd

Interesting. I guess I would think TVJapan is too tiny to bother with exclusive contracts. It could be related to their DirectTV Go streaming service which I see has international offerings.

TVJapan no longer available on Dish from April 2nd

When you watch that one station a lot of the time and do not have other programming in your home language it sure does. For others I am sure it does too a mega NFL fan who loses that would likely drop. I think some were threatening to leave over that AMC network that had Walking Dead I think...

TVJapan no longer available on Dish from April 2nd

I am sure they have a good idea. They will know the exact subscriber count and most of how much it is watched. Receivers not connected to the internet won't give feedback I suspect. We are certainly not talking hundreds of thousands of people so I really doubt it will be a big hit for Dish a...

    Provider Alternatives To DISH?

No. DSLibrary Japan is owned by them but only has a tiny percentage of programs some are broadcast some years ago.

TVJapan no longer available on Dish from April 2nd

They posted notice of termination in English here: Notice of Termination of Existing Satellite Service | Quality Japanese Channel 24/7 They do not mention DirectTV. Not sure why they cannot just be on both. They may end up on DirectTV Go. Direct TV will not list it till the second week of...

Watch recorded local channels AFTER dropping those channels?

I have never had problems with free preview movies. I also dropped a level and old rerecords are working great. I do HBO on again then off for a while no problems there either. Never tried recording Sirius XM interesting to know. I also didn't know about DirectTV disabling fast forwarding...

    Provider Alternatives To DISH?

In my new build my choices are PRISM (no comcast allowed to run cable there) and DirectTV between those two who do you recommend? Reason for leaving Dish with my move in three months is TV Japan is leaving Dish due to some contract and moving to Direct TV, it is also available on PRISM. I...

    CenturyLink Prism

It's been four years how do you like it now? Any improvement in the dish anywhere replacement? I am moving to an area with centurylink gigabit and PRISM this summer and TV Japan is leaving Dish but is available on PRISM so I am considering options. How is the remote is it RF like Dish or is...

We happen to be moving in three months and will have centurylink gigabit internet. I may compare PRISM vs DirectTV.

TVJapan no longer available on Dish from April 2nd

We got an email from TV Japan saying they would no longer be available on Dish. I called up TV Japan and they said they made a new contract with Direct TV that starts the 2nd week of April and will no longer be available on Dish network from about 11am April 2nd. Bummer for us as Dish has a...

Anyone know if or when TVJapan will be coming to Sling International?

Sadly we just got a message TVJapan is no longer going to be available no Dish at all starting the beginning of next month and will got to DirectTV. I called TVJapan and they said it was a new contract. Does not affect other cable and IP TV services just Dish.

Why I am happy to have Dish

I've had it stick now and then, I would not be surprised to see it happen tomorrow. Not the end of the world, I can clear it off. If I was abroad I may be a bit annoyed at missed recordings. Most of the time it is not enough to drop signal as you indicate but periodically I will lose signal...

Why I am happy to have Dish

A reason I am happy with Dish came up recently. I am building a new house and we have centurylink fibre there. I looked at PRISM TV from centurylink. I looked at their app and found some things you cannot watch outside your house, some you cannot watch live, and you can watch nothing abroad...

Why I am happy to have Dish

Well I have lost signal in snow several times where I had to go out and brush the snow off the disk to get my TV back. Not this year but previous years.

The new UI finally makes it to my home

I sometimes see recordings that end up being 9gig even if not too long, that is significant so one wants to watch and delete that soon or rerecord it, a rerecord may be say 1.2gig. So it is not just HD/SD. Not an everyday thing and not a total emergency but it helped me manage space more easily.

The new UI finally makes it to my home

I emptied trash yesterday and with an empty trash videos still restored around 10 or so, some have been trashed a couple times and remember the trash was emptied. Not enjoying this update to my hopper1 at all so far.

The new UI finally makes it to my home

I also miss being able to see the size in GB of recorded shows. I suspect we are in the extreme minority and they removed the feature sadly. Another problem I had on my original hopper for two days now (since I got the update) is it keeps restoring some (but not all) of trashed videos. I...

Dish is raising the price for local channels

We can always use an OTA adapter which lets us see locals without Dish retransmitting them. I would love to drop locals and will be picking up the new dual OTA adapter to record subchannels like mhz and nhk that Dish does not carry here
