As of this morning, access to all those channels are gone, back to the Family Pack channels. <sigh>

On Family Pack...but getting most channels....

So I am on the Family Pack, have been on it for the last year. I called to get Showtime last week, yesterday I hit the wrong numbers to change the channel and found I am getting ALL of the 200s + 300s I checked for Histroy International, Military, F/X, Comedy, MTV, etc. I checked my package on...

Directv dispute with Viacom IS OVER!

I thought that way at first, but the more I think about it I think DTV may be just as bad here. I actually think this is more of a pissing match between DTV and Netlflix, with Viacom providing the means. Here's why: DTV is trying to protect the old model (c'mon the ala carte language is just...

Directv dispute with Viacom IS OVER!

I'm on the family pack, which basically is locals, + Nat Geo + Kids channels and my daughter loves Nick.....great.

MLB Extra Innings 2012 Now Available

I Just called...and I was dealing with retention (I did the whole tight budget, MLB.TV offers the same product at a cheaper cost) and was told there were no discounts available at this time. I even asked if I were to pay it one installment could they offer any discounts and the rep told me...

MLB Extra Innings 2012 Now Available

Last year I moved down to the Family Plan, and MLB Network was still there, I assumed it was because of EI, A few days after the season ended MLB Network was gone. Just checked yesterday and I have it back. That's a huge plus if they can be more competitive with the price.

MLB Extra Innings 2012 Now Available

Since they gave away Sunday Ticket for free last fall (I didn't do that offer) I would hope they will offer something similar through retention for MLB.

MLB Extra Innings 2012 Now Available

I am tempted to cut EI for MLB.tv. But last season on all the free preview games on MLB.tv I tried through my Roku there was heavy pixelation anytime the ball was put in play. In addition the pitchers arm was blurry during a pitch. I wonder if your experience is more because of the off-season...

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

UPDATE: I got home and checked, and they gave me the Select package instead of the Family package. So I called up to get them to switch it to Family, and they also gave me an additional $5/mo credit (without even asking for it!). The bill is now at $38/mo. Which would be the same price as...

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

Ok, so a temporary solution has been reached with DTV. I got them to do the family pack with all the receivers (HDDVR, Tivo, regular receiver) HD, package, free showtime for 6 months. With the $10 HD fee waived and a $5 monthly credit for a year, grand total: $43 /mo. They offered me the select...

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

My wife is 8mos pregnant, she wants to cut our expenses. But she also wants some TV (locals +HGTV). HGTV via Roku doesn't seem to be that great otherwise it would be an easier decision. I know I have wasted your time, with this over the last few days, so I wanted to thank you, but understand I...

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

We'd go completely without cable or satellite if we could get locals OTA. But the mountains here prevent any signal. Our choice right now is basic cable (locals in HD via QAM tuner, and TBS) @$23.95 or the DTV Family Pack @24.99 +HD +DVR +2 additional receivers = $53.

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

I'm not certain what the multiswitch is, I imagine it is where all the lines feed from the dish on the exterior of the house. If so there still is no easy way to do that. I am hoping I can get them down a bit more on that package so I will probably try calling tomorrow during the day. If DTV...

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

Each TV is on a different floor of the house. I don't know of any easy way to do this without leaving cables visible.

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

UPDATE Well I called DTV and I am disappointed. They did correct the extra receiver fee ($108 credit) that my account has been billed. However, the "best' they would do is move me to the family package @ $24.99+all the receiver fees and the HD fee, for a total of $53 a month. They said the...

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

Wow! Thanks for pointing to that! That family package makes things very interesting. If we could get that package and they minimize the receiver fees (maybe just keeping the DVR) it would be a tough call. This also assumes they make right that receiver charge for the past 18months.

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

I just have the Total Choice package with no premiums. The only "splurges" are the DVR and HD service. If I could pay ala carte' I gladly would. I know basic cable will be much different. But if my choice is between a basic package at $95 /mo vs. minimal necessary channels at $23/mo. It seems...

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

I'm already on auto-pay. My wife still wants something on the other two for when she does use them (again maybe once a week more as background noise) Re: 4 receivers? We only have 3, I just figured each one had that fee.....so Directv has been overbilling me for a year and half?

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

The market system: competition. I am frustrated with the total bill; the fees are an easy source of blame, but also the paying for stuff that we hardly ever watch while all we have is the basic package.

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

$10 HD fee $7 DVR fee $6 (x3) fee for each receiver (this for some reason includes the HD DVR too) . We only use the 2 other basic receivers about once a week. $35 a month. Total bill = $95/mo I can get basic cable (I live in a somewhat rural area, I can hardly get 1 channel with an anetnna)...

Cutting the cord unless overwhelmed by retention....

My wife and I are sick of the misc. fees tacked on to our bill so we are thinking of cutting the cord and just getting basic cable. We would save $65 a month. We have been loyal customers since 2004, but we do have 4 months left on a contract. We would consider staying if they could shave...
