it always is free for the first month, and if you cancel it within the first year there is a 10 dollar cancellation fee, ive also seen cases where customers have cancelled within 90 days of the service call and still get charged the early cancel fee, plus the 49.95 for the service call.

Advise on debundling Directv service from Verizon

contact verizon first, they will handle the entire process, then wait around a week to make sure it goes thru on dtv's side and have him call in, like blueridge said he wont be getting the auto billpay credit by default if he wishes to continue that. also might be eligable for more discounts anyhow.

New Install - Nervous and some final questions

very glad you had a positive install

Can I add 2nd HR24 and watch recordings on 1st without WHD?

they bundle the charges together if you have hd, dvr, and whole home service making it the 20 dollar fee you would see. so since you have an hr24 already, that means you are paying or getting credits for hd and dvr service, so the rest would just be for whole home.

    Receiver suggestion

I agree with Iceberg, get everything upfront. If you even think that it is possible that you'll be getting a new tv in that other room anytime, go ahead and get it during install. There would be an upgrade charge if you called in more than 10 days after install.

    HR24 slowness problems

sometimes going into the display and prefrences options and turning the scrolling effects off, then rebooting helps speed up all hddvr's

    Whole Home (MRV) question

Only hd receivers would be able to see the dvr set up on whole home. However if the receiver is hd, you can go into wholehome setup and make sure that it is not authorized, and it would not pick up on the dvr.
