Hopper 3 keeps losing EHD connection

So far so good with U347. The EHD did not disconnect last night and this update seems to have fixed a problem with the Netflix app not initializing and locking up the Hopper.

Hopper 3 keeps losing EHD connection

Yah, their tech CS team has a script that says: "reboot. If that doesn't work, unplug. If that doesn't work, offer a replacement receiver. Case closed." It's not the CS team that needs to hear about this bug.

Hopper 3 keeps losing EHD connection

haha.... I guess they think that users don't know enough or that too many users would annoy them. They must have a beta test team for new firmware and a punch list of priorities for each rev. Well, if anyone knows how to get through I hope they'll pipe up.

Hopper 3 keeps losing EHD connection

I thought people from the Dish tech team were reading here. Is that not the case?

Hopper 3 keeps losing EHD connection

Yes, the USB interface chipset makes a difference. But both this BlackX dock and the white "Plugable" brand USB 3.0 dock (which uses the ASMedia 1051E chipset and firmware with UASP and BOT support) work with the H3. The file index is read just fine and I can read and write to both of them with...

Hopper 3 keeps losing EHD connection

Nope. P/N is ST0005U only. S/N ST0005UHK010016. I don't think this has anything to do it it. The issue is not specific to the model or make of the dock.

Hopper 3 keeps losing EHD connection

Yes, both docks I tried are powered. Also using 3.5" hard drives in those docks. No USB port powered drives. I only connect ONE drive at a time. Still the H3 forgets the EHD every night, requiring a hard reboot to see the drive again the following day. Quite a hassle, especially if a timer is...

Hopper 3 keeps losing EHD connection

Yup. Confirmed with Hopper 3. I use an external USB 3.0 dock. Tried both a WD Green drive as well as a Seagate Red drive. It's not the drive. It's the Hopper. Rebooting the Hopper enables it to see the EHD again but after a while it no longer sees it. Unplugging and replugging the USB cable...

Yep. That's the overhead required by the partitioning, formatting and file structure.

Good to know. Thanks, David. I agree about USB controllers. I use a Thermaltake BlacX Dock and just pop the USB drives in and out. Very handy.

Even if you could get the DVR to recognize the drive and initialize it, it will only use 1TB of space. That's the max it can use.

External Hard Drive Archive Bug Thread

Howie - I had way too many such problems with that exact hard drive due to the crummy USB interface in it. I hooked the WD Essentials drive up to my son's PC as a backup drive and bought a Seagate 750 SATA drive for the DVR which I placed in a BlackX Dock ($40) that has a great USB chip in it...

Finally got HD (vip722) - a few questions

I'm using a Linksys Dual-Band Wireless-N Gaming Adapter on my 722. I acually plugged it into a 5 port switch so I have ethernet for the 722 and my Blu-Ray player as well. Works perfectly on my wireless network and eliminates the need for 10-BaseT wiring to the equipment rack. .....G

External Hard Drive Archive Bug Thread

Yep. put the drive back in your 'puter. Right-click on "Computer" and choose "Manage" and then "Disk Management." There you can delete the partitions that the DVR put there and create new one(s) and format them. .....G

External Hard Drive Archive Bug Thread

Actually, yes. I think gdarwin mis-understood your question. The encryption is keyed to your account number, so when you plug the external drive into your new 722, everything will be readable and you can move it all back to the 722's internal hard drive if you wish. If you haven't used an...

External Hard Drive Archive Bug Thread

Hmmm... it says "12 Mb/s" USB 2.0 is 480 Mb/s. 480Mbit/sec roughly equals 60MB/sec. Of course, real throughput of the hard drive in the case will be 20-40MB/sec. How 'bout this: Amazon.com: Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Hub F5U237-APL-S: Electronics .....G
