Directv moving A&E Nets out of Entertainment Package for current subs

Yeah this is an interesting strategy, they did it with Nick Jr. a few years ago. You have to opt-in by the deadline to keep your stations if desired. Unlike grandfathering, buy doing it this way they can drop a big group that does not opt-in. Likely kick starts some savings toward the more...

DirecTV allows subs to drop locals

I was thinking back to when Dish did not provide guide data if you dropped their locals, despite that they had it in their system. I think they changed that over the years and now provide guide data for using DVR on locals. I'd expect DirecTV does the same and allows the guide data for DVR...

DirecTV allows subs to drop locals

Very interesting transition, Dish has done this for years, same savings - $12/month. The real key question will be if anyone that removes locals will receive guide data for the OTA locals using an LCC or AM21. I can't recall how DirecTV handled that, as they do have a few markets without...

Converting from "via Satellite" to "via Internet"

Glad to hear it all worked out and that they did waive the ETF to switch to stream.

    D11 outage 2/27/2024 (Resolved on 2/28)

As the satellites age this will get interesting, they do not plan to add further replacements. The closer we get to 2030 they may have to make decisions to remove channels from the platform. Losing spot beams would make tough calls on local markets.

    D11 outage 2/27/2024 (Resolved on 2/28)

Glad to see they have it back online, will be interesting to see if the lost three transponders or if they can further recover.

    D11 outage 2/27/2024 (Resolved on 2/28)

Satellite positioning = not good. Hopefully they can regain control and regain positioning. I had hope that DirecTV was still relying on someone at AT&T to perform their software updates and we would just have a short outage like the nationwide cellular network did last week.

Converting from "via Satellite" to "via Internet"

If you didn't bring up the ETF, and he didn't bring up the ETF, you will probably get a bill for the ETF. I'd call back and say cancel service again and talk to that department to see what they can do. The fact that you are moving and would like to use internet instead of them having to...

    DTV Stream

If you signup at directv.com there is a per-television fee if they accept the leased hardware, a $15/month advanced receiver fee, and a regional sports fee (choice package and above). If you signup at streamtv.directv.com it is bring-your-own-device and the three fees above do not apply. The...

DIRECTV GEMINI: Official Way to Allow a DIRECTV Internet C71KW-400 WORK FOR SATELLITE

Good point - that may likely be the case. I've seen reports of people recommending a Roku or similar because of that.

DIRECTV GEMINI: Official Way to Allow a DIRECTV Internet C71KW-400 WORK FOR SATELLITE

Re: Winterwinds: 1- Yes the $7 would apply if you use it as a client, or you would need to deactivate a mini. If HS17 Genie 2, don't do this as MAC address must be registered. 2- Yes or it will deactivate at 30 days 3 - Yes, just login and use it as a streaming device if it lets you since the...

Gemini Air - New DirecTV Stream Device

Their new lease model for DirecTV via Internet is still a two year commitment. The only change is extra boxes are $7/month forever instead of $5/month for 12 months then you own them. DirecTV retains ownership so by leasing them they can charge the per-box fee forever. For a customer getting...

Gemini Air - New DirecTV Stream Device

Yeah the lease is worse. Still has the $15 ARS fee, a $7 fee for each Gemini Air (forever, not just for the first year), and have to return the equipment when you leave (or pay $120 fee, versus owning it and not having to send it back). They're a simple Android TV dongle, retails all the time...

Gemini Air - New DirecTV Stream Device

In another spin further into redicilious territory, DirecTV via Internet is now a "Leased" Gemini Air with the option to lease more for $7 each matching the satellite service. Just terrible to see this continued money-grab for multiple rooms. I thought they got past it when they would "sell"...

    Future of Sports Pack

It will get more fragmented as some teams end up on league run streaming or OTA. This so far is lower TV revenue markets. If a large market team changes from the RSN model that will garner more attention. So far, it's just team RSNs that were not profitable/sustainable. I image the RSN model...

New Terms of Service for DirecTV Stream

I expect if they change the offering for "via internet" and "stream BYOD" they will just retire the stream BYOD option. That would force new customers to the traditional pricing model with an intro rate, 2 year contract, $15 advanced receiver fee, and a free piece of hardware. That $15 ARS for...

New Terms of Service for DirecTV Stream

Pretty sure this is the DirecTV via Internet terms and not related to the BYOD stream product. The via Internet terms have always gone to a webpage that had DirecTV Stream and also showed terms for the BYOD product. They were mixed on the page. This is the result of mixing your sh*t, it makes...

Gemini Air - New DirecTV Stream Device

The cutoff aligned with when they launched the DirecTV via Internet product. They removed the option to order hardware from new stream only BYOD accounts. That said, if you can find a used one, or want to pay retailer prices for a new one (solid signal $199 is the only one I know of, which is...

Switching from SAT to Stream Questions

I think you have 14 days to cancel without the ETF if you return the equipment. If the favorite list is a deal breaker you should review the terms and call back and talk to cancellations. If they quoted you a $400 ETF and you are in the first few days they did not acknowledge that you have an...

    DIRECTV Raises TV Prices

This is kind of noteworthy as it is the second increase in one year. For a long time, Directv has always increased once at the beginning of the year. They decided they couldn't wait the 60 days until January (effective in November)? That is surprising. Is it an indicator that they'll speed...

    Nexstar/Mission/White Knight dispute with DIRECTV

Well, under two hours to kickoff of the week 1 Sunday NFL games and no deal in sight. Sadly if the return of the NFL didn't get them to push for a deal, there isn't anything new coming up that will change things. This Nexstar dispute may last quite a while (it already has). With the writers...

Gemini Air - New DirecTV Stream Device

I'd also mention the Gemini Air is $120 per device, no difference from the Gemini box. I would have thought they could get those down to a $60 price point being a dongle, $5/month for 12 months instead of $10/month would be more attractive to getting new customers.

Gemini Air - New DirecTV Stream Device

Thanks for sharing this. Sounds like software is still a challenge and anyone signing up for service and receiving the Air...

New DIRECTV Receiver Coming in August

Seems pretty odd that they don't include DECA support and it has to be networked via ethernet (or external DECA). I get that commercial is more likely to use ethernet but internal DECA support couldn't possibly cost that much.
