Should You Dump Fios for Directv?

Oh, my- such strong language for a stupid argument :) From the posts I've read over in the D* forums many claim it is in full 1920x1080i rez. You and others can argue the opposite and the debate can continue, so... ... from my vision, and I'm very picky about PQ, I see no difference in...

Are the HR20/HR21 DVRs the only DVRs compatible with DirecTV HD?

I've just switched from Fios and their nightmare of an "upgrade" on their DVR... man, I'll take the HR20 any day over theirs (part of the reason for the switch). It's been awhile since I've had a Tivo and I'm sure the Tivo has improved over the years, but the HR20 seems better to me from my...

Should You Dump Fios for Directv?

The only HD that isn't compressed is HD DVD and BluRay. You're correct, even OTA is compressed as is Fios, even though their PR machine would like to make it seem the opposite. From my observations, Fios puts out more bits than Directv, but it's pretty darn close. The only difference I spot...

Should You Dump Fios for Directv?

Hop over to the DirecTV forums here and you'll see that with their new satellites up and mpeg4 compression the HD-lite is gone. I have a 60" 1080p tv and believe me, you would tell the difference and you can't between D's hd and Fios. The HD-lite USED to be the case, but full rez now. You...

Got it. So what did you switch to and are you glad you did?

Should You Dump Fios for Directv?

Great, so you're now the second story I've read of with a huge bill after canceling. What was their reasoning for the charge? And I am sure to save the receipt. Did you do their Auto-Pay?

Should You Dump Fios for Directv?

Rather than continue to complain about FiosTV with their problems of billing, the new DVR and lack of HD- I finally bit the bullet and made the switch. Should you? Well, here is my impressions and comparisons between the two. Fios pros: great HD & SD picture quality. VOD is finally starting...

    Important Question About Fios Tv

Yeah, I thought this might be a fix for the new guide and eliminating channels as well. Doesn't work- it blocks the channels requiring a pin number, but will not remove them as you scroll. Theoretically from the "other" site the fix may happen tomorrow... of course the rumor of when we were to...

    FIOS 2.0 now available!!!!

I found that if you hit the info button twice while the recording is playing you can select to delete it instead of going all through the menus. The funny thing is that it still keeps playing! As far as the remote, I was one of the unlucky ones that had a DVR that didn't take to the new...

    New HD Channels?

I'm pretty close behind you; I mean, I believe you and I have been with FIOS pretty much from the start (at least I have been) and certainly put up with a lot for the great PQ. But I'm just about to fly the coop as well. The only thing holding me back at this point is I'm afraid of the hassle...

    A&e Hd

Go to their website and you'll see for yourself... and drool like I am for more HD!!! Trimmed the trees today for Directv sat... I'm getting close to dumping FIOS with the smell of fresh HD grass. One new HD channel? That's it? Wowee.

Still the phone company... can't even order

Yep, a bad experience that many of us have shared. When I stopped their phone service and went to voip- oh my gosh, for months my billing was a nightmare, some CSR's insisted that I had to have a phone number with them to access anything, other CSR's and tech's gave me 3 different numbers to...

Still need two dishes for VOOM?

Thanks Iceberg... is it all mpeg4 now like Directv? I think I've read that it is no longer HD lite (coming from FiosTV so PQ is important), is that true? Or does Dish have new birds for their HD?

Still need two dishes for VOOM?

Sorry, I've searched the forums and talked with a dish salesperson (ugh), and I still don't have the answer. I used to have Dish when Voom first came out but I had to have two dishes on my house. I'm thinking of coming back to Dish and wonder if this is still the case? My assumption is that...

Dumped DISH 622 and went with FIOS !!!

Yep, great PQ, movie pack is a good deal as long as you don't want HBO, I still am waiting for HD VOD, and I actually don't mind the DVR as much as others complain about... just grass is just starting to look a LOT greener on the other side. I suppose if you are willing to put up (and...

Dumped DISH 622 and went with FIOS !!!

Just a warning to you guys thinking about switching: 1. Many of us have had billing nightmares on several occasions 2. Customer service is really bad... more of a lack of knowledge than anything IMO 3. The DVR hard drive is small and HD eats it up FAST 4. We have no clue if we will ever get a...

    New HD Channels?

That's my fear- sure, maybe (maybe) we'll get a couple HD channels this year but nothing like what Dish and Direct are doing in their competition. I mean, I just can't imagine turning the TV and poof we have 20 new HD channels. Yeah, the dvr isn't the greatest, but it works okay, and yeah the...

    New HD Channels?

Yeah, as I was doing the research I remembered how with Directv and Dish you have to have a land line (possible, but was often a pain with none close), as well as the local HD still have to come via an antenea. Ugh. Plus you can have two HD dvr's IF you pony up and $498 with Dish! Sheesh...

    at-250 vs fios tv

I left Dish for FiosTV several years ago because of price and PQ. Now I'm considering switching back with Dish's mpeg4 compression giving great PQ and the fact that Fios appears to have good prices, but being a telco, you soon see that there are a lot of added surcharges making a pretty high...

    New HD Channels?

Wow, so I thought it was just me that was thinking of dumping VZ after viewing both Dish and Direct's new HD offerings. I don't get it, you would think VZ would throw us a bone and at least say what is coming in the future. I mean, I was one of the first to report on this forum of how...

    HD Resolution

PQ is the real reason to switch, or at least was for me. The DVR is so-so, and perhaps I'm counting on too much for the 2nd roll-out of the software around April, but hopefully Verizon will address all the issues of the DVR... but the PQ... very nice.

Has any one else seen 'screen freeze'

You might want to go unplug and "reboot" the black box that feeds your tv's. That's what a tech had me do to solve another problem and MAYBE it would work.

    Whats happening to VOD

Well, I guess I'm with GarlandTexasUser on this one. I've had FIOS from the start and was quite forgiving with the various bugs, but come on already- there are a lot of issues with the DVR and service that have yet to be worked out, and on and on. And dealing with Verizon if you stop their phone...
