Paid OTA TV Expanding - How it Impacts Free OTA TV

I can only see Paid OTA taking off in three scenarios: 1) Rural areas where getting any OTA is difficult, and it's presented as a much cheaper alternative to satellite/cable. 2) Niche markets (Spanish, Immigrant communities) 3) They get sports channels people actually want at a price that...

Windstorm wrecked the Fortec dish, anyone have a spare part?

Thanks! I'm not 100% sure, but I'm checking this weekend. FWIW I'm lucky, The little dish has been through 2 major wind storms without any notable damage.

Windstorm wrecked the Fortec dish, anyone have a spare part?

So the big wind storm in Minnesota took out my Dish! Thankfully it looks okay, but the LNB holder cracked in half. Does anyone have a spare part? Also, if anyone has a 36" dish they'd like to unload in the area PM me. I could use an upgrade after 15 years :)

    QVC @103W C-band

After this segment I could push 1000 wearable Trashbags in 15 minutes just by saying "The Moon's a Natural Satellite, also the Sun's a Star. Follow me for more 2nd Grade Science trivia."

    103w on ku band

12145V, 20000SR is a strong TP with multiple channels on it (NHK, CGTN, etc) plus some radio. Start with this if you're having a hard time getting some of the others. The NBC's are a bit weaker and might need some tweaking. Right now DW is a little tough for me, mostly because the wind blew my...

finally, it's Eurovision Song Contest week again

I'll have to keep an eye out on 97W. BVN and RTPi seem to have the best quality on there.

OTHER Is RG-6 required for fta?

I remember early on I didn't have enough cable to get from my yard to the basement window - I threw in some RG-59. Stuff was breaking up all of the time no matter how much I tried to point the dish. A few days later I traded the small portion of 59 with RG-6. Night and day.

Getting Radio to play on Linux

One of my favorite parts of the Mio is being able to play video on my computer from the box with ease -- REALLY nice for election night when keeping an eye on the horserace last week. However the radio channels seem to play randomly, or never at all. I've tried both VLC and SMPlayer (the latter...

Adding free & legal IPTV HLS m3u8 feeds to Edision OS MIO 4K

This one for starters: https://www.linuxsat-support.com/thread/129844-jedi-maker-xtream-iptv-bouquet-creator-main-thread/ I mostly run m3u files on a USB drive now, but for awhile I tried this. It was okay, but names of the channels rarely worked.

Adding free & legal IPTV HLS m3u8 feeds to Edision OS MIO 4K

It's up and down for me -- I loaded some (legal of course) News Channels and sometimes they play just fine, sometimes they stutter and die after a few minutes. And, honestly, the IPTV add-on for the Mio is quite bad so I've only used it a few times. I'm also using Ethernet.

Adding free & legal IPTV HLS m3u8 feeds to Edision OS MIO 4K

How goes the playback on these things? I attempt to play some on VLC and things usually work, but I try it on the Mio and it'll work for a few minutes/seconds and then the stream will crap out.

Any chance at all for 58W 4160H on a mini-BUD? Has anyone been successful?

I'm in Minnesota and have received this on a 1.2 before! It came on a smaller Primestar dish as well, so give it a chance! FWIW, I've received a few things on 58W on a miniBUD in the past so it's totally worth your time to experiment.

Former FTA Mainstay raided, church leaders arrested

It's been awhile since I saw SMNI (fka KJC-TV) on 97 West, looks like there's been a crackdown: https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2020/january/fbi-kingdom-jesus-christ-childrens-joy-foundation-philippin.html The shows always seemed to be a duller version of the TBN but with a lot more...

It's TVK from Cambodia in 97W. I have no idea what the story was, but it's on there once in awhile. There's a lot of dancing and costumes, tho.

Thanks! This link works and I can throw it onto the Chromecast via YouTube. It's not FTA, but it'll do for now.

    HD Channels on 97W Ku

On Ku there is Al Kass HD, which is generally sports. Not much I've seen beyond generic coverage and the occasional soccer or handball game, but it's there.

    Kuwaiti/Arabic Sesame Street

I've noticed that KTV1 is running Iftah Ya Simsim, aka a co-production of Sesame Street weeknights at 9:30pm Central. It's been fun catching Sesame Street versions on the Dish -- I've seen the Dutch version on BVN in the past. Have you found any others?

Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra.. missing out on stuff?

I have the x2 mini premium HD. For a cheaper receiver it's actually really impressive. I had some difficultly nudging the dish with 1.2, but it wasn't tough to figure out. I also had the Fortec Lifetime Ultra when I first started -- I remember setting 91 West to scan, taking a shower, and having...

New to FTA; entry level equipment and what channels will I find

Welcome! I grew up on shortwave too, and I miss the feel of it greatly. FTA fills some of that gap, but nothing replaces spinning the radio and hearing a small island nations' shortwave service or waking up in the middle of the night just to see if you can catch Malaysia or Kiribati. Stuff's...

    Mini BUD on 103w SES3/AMC1

    For what I've experienced (and I haven't done miniBUD/1.2m experiments for a few years), AMC1 was out-of-reach. My best bets were 99, 91, 55, and 58.

    Al Jazeera English

They're determined to keep AJ English out of the US. They also seemed determined to keep anyone from watching AJ America. My replacements have been France24 via Chromecast & YouTube and NHK on the dish. I appreciate AJE's non-West perspective (albeit with some HUGE caveats), but these will do...

OMG! North Korea on Intelsat21 58W

I did miniBUD experiments awhile back, and a fair amount of 58 is easy to catch. Unfortunately the TP with this was one of the few I couldn't lock, at least in Minnesota. Of course Your mileage may vary.

OMG! North Korea on Intelsat21 58W

The channel doesn't broadcast 24/7 and might be only 8 or so hours a day according to Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_Central_Television There was a live stream at one point (and it might still exist), likely done by a hobbyist in the South or elsewhere in the C-Band footprint. Yup...
