the 2 yr contract comes with the hd and dvr's, the 1 year contract comes with your local channels(at least in my market) i do know you can avoid the contract either by not getting locals or prepaying.

its not terribly hard. get a 3 lnb sat, a 4x8 powerd multiswitch, and a buttload of cable. run 4 lines from the dish to the multiswitch, then run 2 lines to each reciever. if you have any experiance doing sattilite then this wont be terribly harder than a normal install. just remember the 4x8...

just to explain a little more the new 5 sat uses frequencies below 800MHz. therefore the diplexer will get confused and sent the sat to the UV/ant side(<800MHz.) and only cause problems for both the cable/Internet and the sat.

i personnally use 6x8's for everything now only because you dont have to power it. and because im a tech and i dont have to pay the diffrence(i assume they cost more)

the 4x8 or 6x8 will lock each of the 4 lines to the dish to a certain sattilite eg. one for 119, one for 110, one for 101 even transponders and one for 101 odd. then the 4x8 can send whichever signal it needs to one of the 8 outputs. therefore replacing the dish's multiswitch.
