    HR10-250 v6.3 Announcement / Release (It's out now!!)

Absolutely. For the most part, all standby really means is that the video outputs are shut off.

The "New" DirecTV HD DVR coming out soon!

I didn't say it would. I was implying that there's another (better quality) alternative but I wasn't sure if we're allowed to discuss it.

The "New" DirecTV HD DVR coming out soon!

Won't truly be DVD quality since you're doing an analog capture/encode. Are we allowed to discuss Tivo hacking here? I get my forums confused.

AT&T announces $336 million video TV plan, other upgrades

This fight has been going on for a long time. Cable companies want AT&T to negotiate local franchise agreements. They feel that since they had to, everyone should. AT&T has no problem paying the local fees but doesn't want to take the time to negotiate all those agreements. For the most...

AT&T announces $336 million video TV plan, other upgrades

Yeah, they're doing the initial rollout with VDSL technology which gets somewheres around 20-25 mb/sec. And yeah, I think there are bits of CT that are part of AT&T because AT&T (or SBC) bought some small LEC up there ages ago. Anyway...you can see roundabout pricing already, because the...

AT&T announces $336 million video TV plan, other upgrades

First...as others have pointed out, that's 1 HDTV stream initially; more to come. Second...I'd guess the number of residences with multiple HDTV sets in use at the same time is rather small. Third...it isn't just about the bandwidth, and comparing bandwidth between FIOS and AT&T's...

    "secret ebay info on HR10-250"

One can presume that it will at least be similar to the R15. By definition, if they've never used a Tivo there's no way they could notice the difference. :) You'd think that, but then the R15 doesn't have wishlists, and AFAIK is still waiting on things like dual live buffers, etc. :)

All information available on various forums for free, FYI.

    HR10-250 vs. RCA DTC210

I can't even imagine why such a function would exist...I mean, I guess I'm just used to insisting I see things in the proper aspect ration without distortion...

HR10-250 Hard Drive work in PC?

The answer is no. The recordings are encrypted, and the encryption is tied to the crypto chip on the Tivo's motherboard. If you could get that Tivo back up and running, there are things you can do to unscramble the videos, but it's non-trivial. Go here and search for S2_Unscramble.

Enter Here To Win: 1.2 Meter Dish And Stand

I am dying to get into FTA, and would therefore love to win this! :)

    Convince me

For me, the Tivo was the thing that got me to switch from E* some time back. At the time E* had nothing remotely comparable. Some of the things you mention (guide speed for example) are unique to the HD DVR; the SD DVRs have no such limitation. Others can be added -- 30 second skip is a...

    HR10-250 and Off-Air Antenna

The ATSC tuner in the HR10-250 are not as good as the latest tuners found in TV sets. You may well find that your TV tunes/locks things that the HR10-250 won't.

    HR10-250 OTA signal strength indicator

No, slacker is correct -- the "6.1 7.1 etc" numbers are just logical representations. Here in Chicago, 2.1 is really 3, 9.1 is 19, 7.1 is 52, etc.
  15. C

    HR10-250 OTA Reception?

If an amp makes it worse, your problem may be multipath and not signal strength. As the HR10-250 has an older-generation tuner, it doesn't handle multipath well at all. I've been told that an attenuator can help but I've never experienced this myself. You might want to check over on...

Directtv Question from a Dish sub

Yes, and yes. But D* will no doubt start adding national HD channels in MPEG4 sooner or later. --chris
  17. C

    H10-250 and 5.1

Still the same issue...you don't have the HR10-250 connected to anything that can decode 5.1. In fact, since you're just using the RCA, even the digital PCM output won't be decoded. --chris

    HR10-250 question

Absolutely not true. You do not need the HD pack at all. On the other hand, without D* service you won't get guide information, and the DVR stuff will stop functioning (except, as mentioned, the 30 minute buffer).

HR10-250 & OTA with Season Pass

Season passes are channel-specific. So if you set the season pass up for, say, channel 7-1, then that's the channel it will record on.

Put service on hold, now I can't used HD-DVR to record at all?

No, you can play recorded videos without having service. I've done this myself.

    H10-250 and 5.1

Just to be clear...it's not that the HDMI cable/interface won't pass DD5.1, because it will. It's that your TV doesn't decode DD5.1. If you connect the HR10-250 to an HDMI-compatible A/V receiver, you get DD5.1.

    HR20-250 to be installed

Don't mean to doubt you, but $599 with a $200 rebate sounds suspiciously like an HR10-250.

    HD SPICE... anybody?

Um, there's no such thing as X vs. XX vs. XXX. They're just marketing hoo-hah. The only official rating the MPAA ever had was "X" (which they've abandoned in favor of NC-17). Not that this is relevant or anything. :)
  24. C

    New HD Chans

No. I emailed D* and they told me that TNT HD will be MPEG2. They further stated that new national channels wouldn't be MPEG4 until all HD customers had been upgraded to MPEG4 equipment -- a couple years away at least.

    Record HD with DVD+R?

Or unless you have an HDTivo.
