My 211 Receiver Powers my External Hard Drive. Is this OK?

Thanks for all your input. I use this 211 with the Western Digital portable drive mainly for short term DVR functionality, not much long term archiving. So I won't be crying if I lose any programs should the drive crash. Actually, the reason I tried the portable drive in the first place was...

My 211 Receiver Powers my External Hard Drive. Is this OK?

I have a 500 gb portable hard drive (Western Digital) with no power supply. Just for the heck of it, I decided to hook it up to my 211 receiver and was surprised that it worked. It's been working great for 4 weeks. Everything I read on the dish website and these forums say that you can only...

    HD Picture Cropped?

Yep that is it. The overscan. Thanks everyone! This is not intended to be adjusted by a user. But I found a website (http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/) that tells you how to access the service menu. There you can adjust the vertical & horizontal picture size. I adjusted the overscan a...

    HD Picture Cropped?

It is in Normal mode. I am connecting with a DVI cable to a Sony TV. If you compare both images it looks like I am losing about 1.5" (from a 65" TV)from all four sides of the TV. Very minimal but a little annoying to know that I am missing some of the picture. I am beginning to think it...

    HD Picture Cropped?

I have a 921 receiver and have noticed that the picture seems to be cropped a little. The guide preview window displays the full image but when viewing in the full screen mode, the image seems to be cropped. (see the left side of the attached pic.) You can see the first picture has one...

    Details on DishDVR Advantage?

I think this if brilliant by the marketing guys at Dish. They fooled all of you in to thinking they are waiving DVR fees just like in the Everything Pak. Do the math! The price of the DVR fee is in the package! New AT200 = $42.99 + Locals = $5.00 + DVR Fee = $5.98 = Total = $53.97...

Is it safe to stand DVR's vertically?

I have a DVR 921 receiver that can be hidden behind my TV if I were to stand it vertically. Does anyone have an opinion if this would be safe? Is there any potiential of damaging or shortening the life of the hard drive?

Does 921's Hard Drive Ever Stop Spinning? (in Standby)

Well I find it strange that they decided to turn of the hard drive on the 501, but did not do the same with the 921. With so many posts here about many 921's needing to be replaced within a year I wonder if it would help to turn off the hard drive. Even if there was no benefit, it would be...

Does 921's Hard Drive Ever Stop Spinning? (in Standby)

Does any one know??? Does the model 921's hard drive ever stop spinning when you go into standby? I have a 501 and this drive stops about 10 minutes after I go into standby. But by 921's drive never stops. Seems like a lot of wear and tear having this running 24x7.
