2 out of 4 LNBs crapped out, is this usual?

Sorry, just called my friend,he got off his roof 10 minutes ago and managed to get his dish repointed, has a 70 signal quality again! So his lnb is fine after all. Strange though that he lost signal there, everything seemed locked down pretty tight according to him. He said though when he...

2 out of 4 LNBs crapped out, is this usual?

Hey all, I got into FTA because my mom wanted korean language programming. So I got a receiver and dish from tantv.com (the asia network - channels on AMC4) and set it up on my mom's roof, with the help of iceberg and a few others on this very helpful forum. Here's my issue. I bought 2...

Problem pointing to AMC4, again (!)

success! Tried it again (it's a beautiful, record temp day here near the Windy City) and successfully locked in the signal! Turned out my azimuth and skew (estimated) were ok, but my elevation turned out to be 45 degrees. The satcalculator said the elevation should be 40.1 degrees, last time...

Problem pointing to AMC4, again (!)

Oh yeah, I learned that lesson (pointing at a strong transponder) from Iceberg a couple months ago. I thought I was approximating 14 degrees skew during my attempts, but I'll give it another go. Try try again, that's the old saying.

Problem pointing to AMC4, again (!)

I know, I know, I had this issue last time, but with help from Iceberg and a few others, I was able to point it successfully, no prob. Now I have another dish, a Fortec 90cm with a Finepass receiver and a universal LNB. Still trying to point at AMC4, this time from a different house in a...

    Trouble pointing to AMC4

not bad... I figured I had a decent signal. Called my mom over the weekend, she said the rain and snow over the last week didn't interrupt the picture at all. Do you ever lose signal in bad weather?

    Trouble pointing to AMC4

meters My quality level was about 3-4 points lower than my signal level (68 and 72, respectively, on an overcast day). I couldn't read the instructions, because they were in Korean, but they listed the meters as being between "40-80%". So I think that the Finepass receiver I have has a...

    Trouble pointing to AMC4

Success!!!! Got off work early today, went to my mom's, set the Finepass receiver to the 11822 transponder, went up on the roof. Couldn't lock on until I realized my skew was set at 14.4 degrees clockwise (I had changed it from counterclockwise during my misguided earlier attempts and...

    Trouble pointing to AMC4

Duly noted, guys. The channels are pre-programmed, but if I'm still having trouble I'll try to get the receiver to do a scan to see what bird I'm locked onto. Thanks!

    Trouble pointing to AMC4

Thanks sunelec. I do recall seeing the channels preprogrammed in the receiver menu. I'll still verify the LNB settings, if only because I don't want to keep going up and down the ladder (the one thing I hate about satellite installing, the heights involved). Hopefully I'll get a picture; it's...

    Trouble pointing to AMC4

Thanks. At least I did one thing right. I'll let you guys know if I'm able to point it successfully. Fourth time's the charm, right?

    Trouble pointing to AMC4

It's probably a good idea, if I keep up with this hobby, to buy a better compass (the walmart one I have cost $2). You're right, everytime I place it behind a dish facing south, the reading changes dramatically because of interference from the metal, I'm guessing. It is true, you get what you...

    Trouble pointing to AMC4

thank you to everyone for the quick response Sorry, I'm not at my mom's house right now so I can't verify the LNB LO (Linear Oscillator - I got that from your sticky, Iceberg) but I'll be sure to do that once I get out there this weekend or sooner. But yes, I do remember seeing the LO numbers...

    Trouble pointing to AMC4

Hi, I bought a TANTV (The Asia Network) subscription and equipment for my mom. I decided to install it myself, since I previously successfully installed an 18" Dish Network dish before. I received a 76cm Winegard dish, a Powersat LNB and a Finepass receiver and Viaccess card. I installed the...

    Can't find 119,110 on my Dish 500

moved unit, card is MIA Moved recently, did not have dishmover protection package (dadgummit!), and the CAM is somewhere in one of the many boxes in the middle of my basement. I think. I'm hoping. I know it wasn't it in the receiver when I unpacked it, although I don't know why it wouldn't...

    Can't find 119,110 on my Dish 500

I mounted my Dish 500 on my roof and get zero signal on my 510 PVR. Zilch, zero, none, it’s like it’s not even registering. I set the Azimuth to 217 (using a compass), Elevation to 34, Skew to 116, the settings that the 510 gave me once I put in my zip code. I made sure the mast was straight...

Installing dish 500 on roof, any advice?

I'm installing a Dish 500 on the roof of a single-family home: shingled, pointed roof. Roof seems solid, in good condition, no leaks or obvious weaknesses/damage. I'm in Northern Illinois suburbs, this area is not unusually windy, have had no problems with an antenna with rotater on a chimney...
