    TracVision 4-HP with in-line amp

Hello everyone, My boss has a boat with a TracVision 4-HP installed. He is finding that he's losing the 119 when he heads a little further south than the Florida Keys. The 4-HP is semi-equivalent to an 18' dish. We are wondering if placing an in-line amp on the line would help extend his...

I can confirm that some people are actually ordering this...in South Florida. With 8 HD recievers...etc.

Direct TV Advocated Lying About Need Of Phone-Line

--THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION-- I think that you are missing the point. DirecTV is the company offering the service. DirecTV can ALSO set the terms of them providing the service to you, and one of those terms happens to be required phone lines. Just like when you lease or purchase a new...

Direct TV Advocated Lying About Need Of Phone-Line

Guys, keep this in mind: 1.) Installers have always been contractually required to install and connect a phone line to each IRD. 2.) The pay that installers got was under the assumptions that they were connecting a phone line. 3.) The installers were warned for MONTHS that if they did not...

Local News Report about Fed Up D* Installers

LOL, right on the top of the main page. I guess I'm so used to blocking out ads mentally that I also block out anything that's shaped like one. Thanks.

Local News Report about Fed Up D* Installers

You left out one very important piece: The phone lines have ALWAYS been contractually required, and the techs know this, especially in every Florida market. So, here's another way to think about it: The techs have been getting paid for years for the phone line install without doing it. Now...

    HSP in Houston TX

Incorrect. MasTec is the HSP in Houston, but the home office is not in NC - it's in Coral Gables, FL.

    Electrical shock from Receiver box???

I hate to add to this, but I've seen many houses where - unfortunately - completely ungrounding was the only solution. It goes against everything that an installation technician is taught - but in some cases - like this one - it's the only option. Good luck. BTW - where are you from?

Professional Installers out there....I'm Desperate for Help

Not only is this completely irresponsible, it's also against DTV guidelines. You've probably never had a problem because it ends up at an HSP and they have to clean up after you. With a signal loss of about 14db/100', you should seriously rethink your policy. I'd tighten up on your phone...

    DirecTV Active Screenshots

Not sure if you guys have seen this, but just FYI: As of now, only DirecTV D10 (-100, -200, -300) will be capable of this.

    Multi-switch???

Another option: Put your tivo in the central closet, and use the one line running from the closet to your TV as the output feed. Even your phone lines will be there for you! You'd just need a $30 remote extender.

    Mixing CH3 & CH4 RF Signals

BTW, I did accomplish this with a little bit more expensive modulator. I had one regular IRD, a Tivo, and a DVD player on three different channels. One was channel 67, one 69, and one 71. As long as you have at least 1 channel of seperation, you should be fine. A google search for "dual rf...

    Mixing CH3 & CH4 RF Signals

What he said. More specifically, the reason why you have this problem is because the cheap RF modulators you buy in stores are not meant to work like this. They are not built strictly, and therefore have a certain amount of "bleedover" into other frequencies.

Customer's Who Are Rude And Want Everything Free

I disagree, it's normally management at the tech level. If an HSP is not doing QCs or staying on top of their guys, you get a mess going. I've spent the last couple of months cleaning up an office where we had to fire half of the staff, including all management, because the office was crap...

    36" oval dish?

Why would a tech who does not know international programming attempt to do this?

    Macon Locals When?

As stated in last post, March 16th, but may change. I'm a super here in Columbia and we're ramping up for the launch. It's gonna be a huge mess with the Masters going on.

    Multi-switch???

The multiswitch would need two inputs to work. You can't use it as a "splitter". Your only option is to run a seperate line to the Tivo from the original multiswitch.

    direct tv internal installers

An 8 tech crew is not going to get you HSP status. Try more like...800. I work for one of DirecTV's largest HSPs. Our techs are paid piece rate, not hourly. We do still provide company vehicles, benefits, 401K, etc. Most of our guys make 40K - 50K a year. I myself was making closer $63K...

Coming Back To D*....Little Install Help??

In most cases this will work, assuming that TWC isn't sending very low signal into your house and there isn't too much insertion loss going the other way back out.

Have to vent about Bluegrass Sat Service..

I cannot speak for Bluegrass, as I've never had any dealings with them, but as a supervisor for a major HSP, this IS a case of the customer being wrong. If an upgrade work order is built, the technician expects your house to already have service, ie: a dish and wires already run. The...

    9 receivers, how?

The proper way to do the install would have been with the power passing splitters to seperate multiswitches. I expect that you'll need a service call within the next 30 days.... Hopefully you'll prove me wrong, though. (I've done a few "celebrity" installs, but being that they were within...

    9 receivers, how?

I'm surprised that your contractor has never had to use more than one 4x8. I guess it just depends on the area...I'm in an area with a lot of people with biiig houses. I'm also surprised that they are using 5x8s...generally 4x8s are carried since the 5x8s have such a high signal loss (on the...

Can someone tell me about the D* H10?

As stated above, it's DirecTV's newest "HD" IRD. In the future, pretty much all IRDs going out will be DTV branded...although still manufactured by the best current manufacturers.

    Multiswitch Question

Uh...actually, when the installer showed up to do your high def install, he should have replaced your Phase II dish with a new Phase III Oval (the triple lnb w/multiswitch built into it), and he should have also provided a powered 4x8 FREE OF CHARGE AS PART OF THE HIGH DEFINITION INSTALL. You...
