Actually it's : "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind". The "a" has been debated for years, but recent analysis of the tapes indicated that it really is there even if you can't hear it. Just for accuracy :)

mdwatt, thanks for the clarification. I agree there are lots of engineers that lack common sense. Fortunately or unfortunately sometimes it takes more that common sense to engineer things - the fact that you have to slow down to catch up with something in orbit still makes my head hurt. :D

Those dang laws of physics unfortunately are pretty black and white. :eek: Unfortunately there are bad engineers, but there are also incredibly good engineers. They are people just like everyone else. It's amazing that those "idiots" have managed to engineer a space program over the last 50...
