    What's a guy gotta do?

Yes indeed ! That's the plan. I've been on the broadcast side of TV for 20 years and if anyone knows how good OTA can look it's me. I've always said that the best thing that can happen to TV in modern times is for people to realize just how good free OTA can look. I'm old enough to remember...

    What's a guy gotta do?

Hey! Thanks to everyone! I went with the Wineguard HD 1080 and it brought in everything nice and clear. Many at 90+ strength and a couple at 100% (according to the tuner on the Hanspree TV anyway) Done!

Can a satellite dish interfere with an OTA signal?

I can't see a dish interfering with anything unless it's so large it blocks the signal. A sat dish is a passive reciever.

    What's a guy gotta do?

Thanks everyone! Aesthetics are not a concern at all. It's at the back of the house, not visible from the street and really not visible from the backyard either, so I don't care how ugly the thing is. Besides, an old style TV antenna kind of appeals to the vintage nerd in me. I'll start with...

    What's a guy gotta do?

They all do.. Three of them are Samsung one is a "Hanspree" and one Panasonic. The three Samsung models are a 55 LCD a 32LCD and a newer 32 LED... the Hanspree is a 32 LCD and the Panny is the oldest and smallest at (I think) 24...(kitchen TV) None are "smart" except the new LED. There is a...

Average temperature thread for Directv receivers

Different airflow in the different areas = different temps. For a while I was lucky enough to have my rack right under the A/C vent so I ran a heater hose from the duct into the "rack" and the HTPC and HR24 and the TIVO loved it! The cooler you make it, the longer everything lasts. But none of...

    What's a guy gotta do?

I need to get off the directv habit but I have 5 TV sets that need to be fed the OTA signal. Most of the cabling issues are already dealt with as I plan to use the coax going to the three dishes (two small and one large HD dish) to connect the OTA antenna. I have one Omnidirectional OTA...

    HR 20 or HR 22?

thank you for the response. I went through the setup on the HR22 for the remote and it does not show the option of choosing RF or IR. Also,, unless it has an internal antenna, I don't see the hookup on the back for the RF remote antenna. Am I missing something?

Hughes Tivo is dying, now what?

Just to second never giving up your tivo if HD isn't a big deal. The HRXX DVRs are not bad, but it's like being used to flying in a Gulfsream G650 and then being crammed into a regular passenger jet with hundreds of other schmucks. You'll get there, but it's not nearly as smooth a flight!

    HR 20 or HR 22?

Ummmmm was it a stupid question or something? Should it be obvious? Perhaps the 22 is so much faster that I might do well to give up the RF remote thingy?

    HR 20 or HR 22?

I have an HR 20 that I thought was malfunctioning because of "searching for sat 2" problems, and the fact that it would not allow a re-format. So DTV sent out a new HR-22. The HR-22 is a far inferior unit as far as features. No RF, which I use, no OTA, which I also use. I am thinking that...
