Long, fascinating article about Dish on Bloomberg Businessweek

When I started working for a grocery chain in 1971 at age 16 , being tardy was not tolerated and taking sick days just for the hell of it were not either.. When I left the job in 2005 people were showing up late all the time, and calling in sick all the time with no, or very little consequences...

Its SWM, your statement sounds stupid. When you sign a 2yr agreement, its a 2 yr agreement.

    Ala carte?

Back before Directv & Dish, customers on C-band could pick and choose. Even when Dish first launched, it had a pick ten channel pkg fpr $20. A handful of channels drive up the cost everyone ( mostly sports). So it can be done, if there is a big consumer demand for it

    Colbert makes fun of Autohop

Colbert is a very funny guy. He tends to lean to the left alot making fun at right leaning politicians always using a little distortion for his routine. He did the same with DISH saying signals disapear with clouds, taking the cable tv side. The fact is the DISHs service if installed properly...

Dish isn't the only one having trouble w/ ESPN.

Sports Networks aren't greedy. Its what the professional athletes are getting paid thats driving up the cost. People who dislike sports should not be subsidizing the outrageous salaries profesional atheletes are getting by being forced higher pay tv prices.

    No sports programming Packages

I would encourage everyone to write to their US Senators and Congressional Reps about the high cost of TV due to professional sports. For those of you who dislike sports, how do you like supporting those multi million dollar salaries atheletes get paid, by paying for those expensive sports channels?

Dish may lose my local NBC?

We are facing the same thing here with our Fox affiliate which is owned by Max Media. Max Media is asking for a 270% increase for our FOX 23. If Dish just paid every programmer what they asked, no one could afford to watch tv. Its very unfair for these local networks who are protected by laws...

Dish really has it figured out...

In the last several years DISH has bettered their packages. FX and Fox News were put into Top120 from Top 200. Just recently National Geographic was mved from Top 250 to Top 200. DISH Network has the best options over all their competitors when in comes to choices.

Dish CEO Hints at Possibly Dropping ALL RSNs

I think a better plan would let a alacarte service start evolving. All programmers who would want to be a part of it could be available at alacarte pricing. Granted some of the bigger channels might not want to participate at first, but if they could get more money they may think differently...

Dish CEO Hints at Possibly Dropping ALL RSNs

As a DISH retailer he better give me a 12 to 24 month heads up if hes planning on dropping our RSNs. He will loose 2/3rds of his New England customers if the Redsox, Bruins and Celtics disapear from DISH network.

Versus Lack of Availability on Dish Network Lower Tiers Hits Home

If I was a die hard fan such as you I'd upgrade to Top 250, then go back to current pkg after team is eliminated. Your cost would be prorated and it will cost you a $5 downgrade fee when you return to cheaper pkg.

OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

For those of you threatning to leave DISH. What is wrong with you? Is TV your only thing in life. If DISH just caved in and raised their rates, you'd be complaining about that also. FOX Sports has no interest in what you pay each month. They've got you hooked on sports like drugs. DISH Network...

No New HD for these cities?

I'm a retailer in Maine. I'm installing 1000.4 with 110 wing dishes for all new HD customers. In the future DISH plans to have a one dish solution for each side of the Mississippi. If thats the case Maine will have to be on the Eastern Arc because of low elevation 129 satellite.

More HD to move from 61.5 to 72.7?

If you currently are receiving your programming on 119/110/61.5 and you call to get new HD programming, what they doing? Are they just adding 72.7 with with Dp44 switch or what? Its hard to imagine they are putting another Dish on your roof.

    HIGHER PRICES COMING PEOPLE

I'm not talking about 10 channels for ten bucks, if they wanted a free install they would still have to pay for a decent pkg. If you had a alcarte system where the customer could choose 40 channels for $40, or 60 channels for $50 the satellite provider could still make enough to give us a...
