    AT&T/Dish merger rumors

Then the DOJ will decide the company is too large and will force them to divest into smaller, regional satellite companies: Dish Atlantic, Southwestern Dish, AmeriDish, USDish, ....... You get the picture.

Businessweek: Dish Starts Falling to Earth

While everyone is ranting, I would like to add the following comment: My monthly bill is close to $100/month for the AT250 package and the DMA locals with as many HD channels as I can afford. I don't subscribe to any premium channels. Why oh why are additional HD channels like Smithsonian, HD...

    811 OTA problem

I experienced the exact same issue here in St. Louis when a local station attempted to get their PSIP info correct before the 2/1 deadline. It's at their end but they probably are unaware because few stations monitor their DT signals with the 811. They typically use more conventional STBs...

    P284 and Guide Problem

In light of the fact that there is no standard, you offer an excellent suggestion. How then, does this get communicated to Dish? Until a standard is developed (if ever) mirroring on the -02 for all broadcasters is truly arbitrary.

    P284 and Guide Problem

Well, this should be a relatively minor thing to correct. Do you know how I might best bring this to their attention? Hopefully it could get incorporated into a later release. There's no way to go on like this indefinitely, especially as more DT sub-channels come on line.

    P284 and Guide Problem

I am experiencing a minor EPG issue that is NOT related to P284 as it has occurred in previous releases. Perhaps someone on this Forum has a suggestion. My local PBS affiliate (Channel 9 - analog) multicasts on three DT subchannels. So the EPG on my 811 corrctly displays 3 channels: 9-01...

Tivo connected to an 811. Possible to record HD?

Not sure you can do this. I have an SD TiVO hooked up to a slave SD Dish receiver and an outdoor antenna. The TiVO lists all Dish channels and I select the ones I want to watch. It then finds analog OTA channels via the antenna and includes those in it's EPG. To my knowledge, the Digital OTA...

    P284 and Guide Problem

I've seen the same issue twice since the release. I've reported it and I believe it's a known issue, but I have no idea if/when it will be addressed. Although better than the BSOD & not as frequent, it still requires a reboot to get back in business.

    811 Guide Issue

I've gotten the No Info issue on some DBS channels too. It has only occurred twice since P284, but the last time I got it I was (definitely) on Discovery Channel 182 for a few hours.

E* 811 field testing by satelliteguys?

As a BSOD subscriber, I'll Second that! I was a Beta tester for TiVo in the early days. It's fun and you get the ability to communicate issues to those who can actually do something about them.

    P283 Where are you?

Bryan, So what could be different about our two systems? That's the million dollar question and shouldn't be too difficult to determine. Maybe the engineers at Dish will read this ansd ask use for particulars. I'll gladly tell all. As far as I can tell, I'm not doing anything...

    P283 Where are you?

What do you do differently from the rest? Do you have local OTA DT stations? Can you surf all day without the BSOD? If your answer is YES to both questions, I'm jealous.

    P283 Where are you?

Ditto. I even power-down my 811 every night before bed.....as instructed by Tech Support. But 18 hours later, when I turn it back on it'll give me the BSOD every time. (Perhaps I should also kiss it on the forehead) :D

    P283 Where are you?

The biggest "improvement" I see of 282 over 281 was the ability of the receiver to reboot itself automatically after the BSOD arrives. Some fix.

    P283 Where are you?

If the BSOD issue isn't affecting everyone, then the variable must be identified before a fix can be made. I fear the engineers at Dish are either stumped or resigned to the fact that software cannot fix the issue. To blame this on multipath or low power transission is a cop out. Something is...

    P283 Where are you?

I Sure hope so. I'm not looking for a new release with new buggy features. Dish needs to first fix what's broken. The 49% issue appears to be linked to the infamous BSOD. If it's not addressed, I'll be tossing in the towel. My 811 crashes daily whenever I change OTA channels and is very...

811 Question - How to Get DT Channel Names To Stick

One can only hope. It amazes me that a FOX afilliate in a major market like St. Louis can be so sloppy.

811 Question - How to Get DT Channel Names To Stick

That's what I thought. However, when I e-mailed their engineering dept, they claim it's at my end. One would think they would know. I didn't push back because the guide does list the station correctly at first when I reinstall it. If that's the case, why would it change to the UHF channel...

A new quirk on my 811

I'm connected to my DLP TV via component cables because I truly believe that the picture looks better than via the DVI-HDMI alternative I have on my set. When I made the switch I noticed that my analog SD OTA channels suddenly looked much better as well and did not suffer the same ills I see...

811 Question - How to Get DT Channel Names To Stick

No matter how hard I try, I am unable to get Channel names of local OTA-DT Channels to stick in the EPG. One local in particular always shows up as it's UHF channel number instead of it's true VHF counterpart. For example, the local Channel 2 Fox affilliate shows in the EPG as "43-01" Although...

    811 on a regular TV

Keep in mind that the 811 does not have a Channel 3 RF output. So you cannot distribute it that way thru your house. Not a good way to do it that way anyway. But older units allowed you to do just that for "bedroom" TVs.

    hdmi to dvi vs. component

It's like night and day. Trust me. IMHO, CRT is the worst technology. LCD looks great on the Sony & Hitachi sets. But DLP looks the best with richer, darker blacks (which the LCDs cannot do quite as well) and absolutely brilliant colors.

    Dish 811 - P282 Update

Same here. I then had to pull the plug & download everything once again to get back up. I don't think we here in the field can or should fix this mess. I then called in to report these issues. The Advanced Support person claimed to be aweare of these issues and stated that 2 new software...

    Dish 811 - P282 Update

Do you view OTA-DT locals as well? If you do, then we must really try to isolate why some of us have these issues quite regularly while others NEVER seem to experience them. Do you hace your gude in full-screen mode or do you have the channel you're watching in the screen as well?
