Where are you? Bet you $1.00 that ch 4 is PBS. If not, the ch is using a "datacaster" to send along extra stuff. Call the station engineer and ask. voom will never handle the ch - just hide it. my Houston PBS ch8 was testing the device and took it off during my call.

I got lucky and got 2 good units from ebay. Beware the new-in-box units as they will not work for ota reception, or anything else!. It is kind of a crap shoot and you ahqve to pay shipping to get a bad unit. Check the feedback. Perhaps you might send a pm to hammer(?) who said he has one on ebay...

No way I have seen. Only workaround, if you do not want 17.1, is to "hide" 17.1 and you will go directly to 17.2 every time. Not likely desirable since the x.1 is usually the "best" from that station.

Pretty sure you do need the remote. Where do you live? Have you done antennaweb.net for list of local stations? What did you pay for the voom? I hope it was not new in box! How was remote missed? What local antenna are you using?

Our voom boxes are famous for locking up if you change the channel too quickly and too many times. The reboot procedures above usually fix this. Afterwards, you do have to re-do the local channel setup to hide the channels you do not want to see, which I assume you have done before.

If this is as bad as it may seem, all ota HD stations will eventually "datacast" on their signals like some PBS ones. We voom users will have to "hide" each as they begin to cause lockup or reboot - never to be able to view that channel again. I am not a doctor, but it looks like the boxes will...

I have had Voom dsr550 rcvr since 12/05 and got great local OTA SD and HD here in Houston. PBS, 8-1 was a fav chan until thsg weekend. Going to 8-1 HD started to cause the voom to reboot. I put 8-1 on hide, and everything else worked ok, including 8-2 PBS SD. My 2nd voom unit for backup arrived...
