Moving from BEV to Shaw this summer and appreciate your input

I can say this from experience - avoid the 630. It is JUNK. I cancelled my sub to Shaw Direct because of it.

Bell To release new HD receiver to replace 6131 and phase out SD receiver 4100

There is no Dish equivalent for the 6400. Its Bell exclusive.

No Go Shaw Direct on 100cm dish

Sorry Othea, I assumed the 100cm dish only had one LNB. Never assume they say - for good reason.

No Go Shaw Direct on 100cm dish

The dish has two LNBs? What type?

No Go Shaw Direct on 100cm dish

You need the oval dish with the quad LNB. The 60E or 75E dish. Or you need two dishes and a switch.

Dish equivalent is the 622. 6.3 IR/UHF Pro will work fine.

Bell TV to start swapping out ALL HD MPEG2 Receivers, October 23rd.

Yes - part of the reason is they have to add about 40 local channels to satisfy the CRTC. But only the HD signals will be MPEG4. SD will continue to be MPEG2.

Bell TV to start swapping out ALL HD MPEG2 Receivers, October 23rd.

It was 119. Bell 9242s are refurbed Dish Network 622s. There is no new satellite for MPEG4. MPEG4 allows them to cram even more low bandwidth HD channels on 82.

DPP Quad & DPP44 coming to Bell TV, October 23rd.

Bell is spending a sh!load of money on the MPEG4 swap. I don't think they have given up on satellite just yet.

Is Bell HD really only 720p?

I noticed they now default to 720p. Thank goodness. Used to be 480p. 80% of the Bell subs I checked with HD televisons still had the HD receiver set to 480p.

Bell TV to start swapping out ALL HD MPEG2 Receivers, October 23rd.

Yup. I call BS. No way they are swapping SD receivers yet. And if they did, it would be with MPEG4 units. Kynoch must be a new Bell installer. I think I will trust Slartibartfarst who is the most reputable Bell source I know.

bell 9241 questions for 2 tvs

The DPP33 is very flaky with Bell. Many times the receiver won't recognize it. Must be the firmware.

bell 9241 questions for 2 tvs

You would need a DPP44. The SW44 is not compatible with the DPP Twin. You could go back to the old LNBs and the SW44 also.

    Nimiq 6 Footprint map released

I don't understand why this is a big deal. Why on earth would you want a crappy Canadian provider when you have access to Dish and DIRECTV? Most Canadians would instantly jump at the chance to get a real satelllite provider.

I think you mean Shaw Direct. Thats a helluva of a lot of cable to run for Rogers. ;)

I read somewhere they will Purolator the receiver to your service address.

Bell TV to start swapping out ALL HD MPEG2 Receivers, October 23rd.

For those wondering, the 6100 is the same as the Dish Network 811 and the 9200 is the 942.

Is Bell HD really only 720p?

Shaw Direct has excellent PQ. Problem is their receivers are not so great. Almost as bad as the D* HR series. For HD picture quality: DIRECTV Shaw Direct Dish Network ...and a VERY distant fourth.....Bell. Bell HD is more like 480p.

Shaw Direct 2nd Receiver & Setup

The latest dish is the 60E with quad lnb. For a receiver, they can go with the DSR600 which is HD and a simpler version of the 605. Installing and aiming the dish is easy. I just followed the manual that came with the dish for elevation and skew and used the receiver to aim.

Is Bell HD really only 720p?

720p at low bitrates. Bell has the poorest HD picture quality of the four North American DBS providers.
