FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

I have to say that my service expectations aren't that high. But I've had a lot of bad experiences with Verizon. Have you ever gone to get a phone repair at a Verizon wireless location? Not fun. And I certainly don't expect the Dish reps to know a lot but it would be nice to talk to...

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

Well, I finally decided to cancel FIOS and go with Dish. The ultimate decision was not due to Dish having more HD channels or a better HD DVR -- what finally tipped the balance for me was customer service, or lack thereof. I have called FIOS a total of 4 times now and each call took more than...

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

Well, I finally got to compare my fios set-up with my neighbor's Dish set-up. The comparison was necessarily imperfect because he has a 37 inch LG LCD and I have a 50 inch Grand Wega III. I compared three HD channels and 3 SD channels and also looked at the Voom channels. Here are my...

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

I know what you are saying. Degredation of picture quality can make a huge difference in viewing interest. For example, the picture quality that I had for HDNET and HDNETMOVIES from Adelphia was not nearly as good as I have with FIOS. Now, I watch these channels a lot more.

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

So, I have ordered a dish installation and I will see how it goes and looks and can hopefully do a head on head comparison with FIOS. I have to say, the more I see Fios the more I am impressed with the HD picture quality. HDNET and HDNETMOVIES look outstanding on fios.

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

Thanks for the information on the guide OSU -- I didn't know that. Can I get my locals OTA and map them into the guide for the locals?

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

Thanks for all the input! I actually come out pretty even on the price side of things. I would have to pay the lease fee for the Dish 622 but would also get $200 off HD programming. So, that's a wash. I would only get the bronze package and probably without the locals (the minimum). So...

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

Great comments Riff and right on point! I also love my antennas and use my Sony HDD500 box with them along with my current FIOS set up. You can't beat the huge space on the HDD500! I actually made attempt to use the Fios Cablecard with the Sony box but it failed on the first go round. I have...

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

I do have a neighbor who just got Dish HD and I'm planning to do some comparisons of certain channels tonight. I want to see if Dish HD channels are comparable in HD quality compared to FIOS. I would sure hate to switch and experience a noticeable drop in PQ. But if Tom is right, it's not a...

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

I have the good fortune of having FIOS TV in my area and recently got it installed. I was very excited about getting FIOS given everything that I'd heard about their picture quality on both HD and SD channels. I've had the service about a week now and have to admit some disappointment in that...

So, it looks like I can't get all the HD channels.

What channels can I get at 61.5 degrees?

Do to large trees around my house, I only have line of sight at 61.5 degrees. What channels can I get there? I am primarily interested in HD and am under the impression that the HD channels are all available at 61.5. But I wanted to confirm this. Thanks in advance for any help!

    Stand-Alone HD Package?

Hiker, You are absolutely right. I had the exact same experience as you. Everyone is talking about an HD stand alone pack and quoting the pricing but when you call, they don't know anything about it (including supervisors). I only have LOS to the 61.5 satellite so this is my only feasible...

    No Stand-Alone HD Pack?

I had heard that Dish would make available a stand-alone HD package for $30 per month along with some sort of $6 additional HD receiver fee (and $5 more for locals). But when I called this morning about it I was told that there is no such package currently available with the MPEG-4 receivers...

    family pack ready to go??

    Post Your Upgrade Experience Here

I called around 9 and was on hold for about 15 minutes. The CSR seemed knowledgable about the new HD packages and receivers. She discussed the $299 fee for the 622 and the $49 fee for the 211. I was interested in the HD only package but she said that was not available. She checked with a...

    Considering DN for the HD...

The minimum package you can get is by subscribing to just the Dish HD pack which is $10 per month. Plus there is an additional $5 programming fee. If you want to add Voom then that is another $5 a month. But there are two catches. You have to buy your own equipment. And, you may have to pay...

I believe that you need a PS-9370 power supply. See this thread: http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=66896

voomers ota antenna switching over to dish

I am in the process of setting up a new receiver (a Samsung T451) to my old Voom set up since I can't get Dish (no line of sight). The old Voom set up still has a single line coming down to the house which presumably combined the feed from the voom sat with that from my Sensar antenna. Can I...

Looks like no Dish and no Voom for me :-(

I think the cheapest you can go to get the Voom channels is to subscribe only to the HD programming and then add Voom. The total cost should be: $5 basic programming fee $10 HD channels $5 Voom channels If you have a DVR then that would increase things further. Do I have that right...

Looks like no Dish and no Voom for me :-(

I may be able to get it towards the back of my roof. The problem he mentioned was that that part of the roof is metal. Says he's not allowed to attach a dish to a metal roof for some reason.

Looks like no Dish and no Voom for me :-(

That sounds like a good plan Wally. But don't you have to pay for the HD pack in order to get the voom channels? I think I read somewhere that you can get just the HDs plus Voom but you have to pay around $20 a month. Is that what you have? Also, are you able to integrate you cable stuff...

Looks like no Dish and no Voom for me :-(

The trees are about 200 years old and not on my property - don't think the town would like me taking them down. Guess I could just subscribe to the channels on 61.5 but there is not much there except the voom channels.
