FOX NEWS HD - Where are you?

Forget Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, and all the rest of the noise. Give me C-SPAN HD! I want to see every dirty detail of that HOT senate action! :hungry: Seriously, you guys need to stop with this huge liberal vs. conservative debate. Half of you are killing your own arguments simply by the...

    Not happy with StarzHD quality

Cool, thanks for your input! Please do note however, UltraViolet is very well-known for being an extremely soft-looking film, to the point of people looking almost animated. I noticed this in the theater, and every instance I've seen it since (including Blu-Ray) it's looked the same. So just for...

New Install, what do you think!

What's up with the giant LNB in the middle? Does this improve reception of 129 or something? I just got Dish installed again... they didn't upgrade me to a 1000.2, but they changed the LNB's on my existing 1000, from a single + double, to three single's. We've been having some reception...

Dish 722: Control TV1 with TV2 remote? (HD in 2 rooms)

I believe since HDMI is digital that it would either not work, work beautifully, or have some data errors that I believe usually show as white specks. If I'm having issues I could easily return the cable... I'd rather take that slight risk and have the possibility of having a perfect digital...

Dish 722: Control TV1 with TV2 remote? (HD in 2 rooms)

Thanks for the replies! I'll be running the HDMI to the basement since I believe I'll get no signal loss with a long run, whereas component might not look so hot at around 50ft... especially considering the basement has a 106" screen. Also I believe I'll be running seperate audio cable... I...

    Not happy with StarzHD quality

Sorry for the major bump, but we're getting back into E* land in a few days... how's the quality of Starz and the rest of the MPEG4 channels doing? I know there's some people here who weren't quite as picky as others as far as this MPEG4 switchover goes, so I'd love to hear from some people who...

Dish 722: Control TV1 with TV2 remote? (HD in 2 rooms)

Does anyone know if there's a way to control the main tuner, from another room in the house, using the long-range TV2 remote? I'd love to be able to run a long HDMI and digital coax (sound) cable down to the projector setup in my basement, for occassional usage, while still mainly using on an...

Simple, to sell the new receivers.

    Not happy with StarzHD quality

Last time I checked, 129 has no actual MPEG4 content, but some channels have the MPEG4 headers (so older receivers can't "see" those channels), while 61.5 has a few MPEG4 (I believe Starz and NFL... not sure about others).

    TVGUARDIAN Profanity Filter

I hear that earmuffs and blindfolds work better. :p

    Not happy with StarzHD quality

Put simply: This is because DISH switched the MPEG4 feed to 61.5, while the better-looking (even though it's lower bitrate) MPEG2 feed is on 129. Dish's MPEG4 encoders still suck, they never were good. I'm surprised there weren't more complaints as soon as DISH switched 61.5 to the MPEG4 feed...

    VIP622 crash and burn?

I don't suppose you're using an additional cooling element? These things run very hot. As soon as I removed the rubber feet and put a laptop cooler below it (powered by a USB port on the back of the 622) my average temp went down about 25 degrees, and now I don't get any errors when it's...

Univeral HD - no center channel??

Well, most of the older films you see on HDNet are actually 2.0. Except they have the proper equipment that upscales it to fake 5.1. If UHD would add pro logic flags to their stream, or get the proper audio upscaling equipment, that would be very smart - then people wouldn't have to fiddle with...

Any Full Res Still Out There?

It is, actually. I know several people who had Cable with the ability to capture HD streams, and UniversalHD always hung around 6-10mbps. That's one channel E* doesn't have to bother with bit-starving since the source feed is already so low. UHD looks quite good for being at such low bitrates...

Univeral HD - no center channel??

Here's the thing - much of UniversalHD's content is in 2.0 stereo. However, they don't bother to add the proper flags into the audio stream to tell your receiver to switch into 2.0 Pro Logic surround mode. The best solution, if you can't force your receiver into Pro Logic mode, is to have an...

    October 4th Uplink Report

Yes... I was hoping they'd dump that preview channel completely, or move it to another transponder, because it kills the great quality of the HDNet's. The only reason the HDNet channels still look 'acceptable' is because originally they're the best-looking HD channels out there... and DISH has...

Enterprise on HD net kills my 622

I've found that if you're watching it using analog audio out, the audio sync of the HDNet channels is slightly better. It's a combination of issues - the audio sync gets thrown a bit by DISH downconverting the HDNet's to 1440x1080... they need to add a couple hundred milliseconds of delay to the...

    Where did HDNet Movies go?

I was in the middle of watching A Rumor Of Angels on HDNet Movies, and a few minutes ago, the picture froze for about 30 seconds, and then it turned into HDNet (not the Movies channel). Now HDNet is showing up on both HDNet AND HDNet Movies. What's going on? I wanted to watch that movie! Now...

    Not happy with StarzHD quality

StarzHD is MPEG4 on 61.5, MPEG2 on 129. The MPEG4 definitely looks much worse than the MPEG2, even though it's higher bitrate.
