So I chatted with Dish and they said there would be no receiver fee increase if I upgrade my 625 to a 722 and my 322 to a 222 with Top 200 and free HD for life. I find this hard to believe so is this really true?
I have been out of contract for about 6 months and was thinking about taking advantage of the free HD for life. I was expecting to pay to upgrade the box but if they are also charging for installation then it would be more worth it for me to drop Dish and sign up for Direct considering all the...
I would think when Dish goes to all MPEG4 they will get rid of the SD counterparts of most channels. I see no reason why they would waste bandwidth transmitting SD when all recievers are capable of recieving HD. It seems many of the SD channels are just cropped HD transmitted in MPEG2.
It's the nature of the technology. SD through s-video looks gorgeous on my Mistubishi CRT. Unsurprisingly the same model of receiver (625) and connection looks like crap on my 37inch HDTV.
Pray for a Hurricane ;)
When we had Dish first installed there was a large pine tree completely blocking 129. Ike rolls along, and the tree falls right on our neighbor's house. I hooked up the receiver to a generator the next morning and what do you know we had a perfect signal for 129. At...
This channel was occasionally useful for 129 testing purposes. I have a Dish 1000 with a mpeg 2 receiver so this was one of the only english channels I could receive off that sat. I couldn't stand it for more than 5 minutes though. :D
That was my experience. I hooked up my 625 to my LG DVD Recorder and then had it upconvert the picture to 720P via HDMI to my 37" HDTV. The picture didn't look any better. The thing was very good at upconverting DVDs, analog signals not so much.
I don't miss any, because with my Classic 200 package I get FSN Southwest, the Sports Alternate Channels, and the local My 20. The thing is I don't think you get RSNs with Turbo HD, but I am not sure about Sports Alternate channels.
Sorry, don't have Turbo HD so I can't confirm it for that package. Most of the Astros games on Dish are shown on the "Sports Alternate" channels, rarely on FSN Southwest. If you can at least confirm that you can receive Sports Alternate channels with Turbo HD then you should be able to see most...
It depends on the receiver. I have a 625 SD DVR hooked up to my 37" HDTV and the picture looks like crap. The HDTV receivers up-convert SD so as long as you get one it should be fine.
Tony's statement is very accurate for another Texan.
Rain ? Signal Loss
Thick Clouds = Signal Loss
Heavy rain itself doesn't always disrupt service. I know from experience, as the gulf brings heavy rain to this region. I have had instances where it is pouring buckets outside and the...
Service rarely goes out if your dish is properly aligned. We got the same rain system y'all did and we only lost our satellite signal for about 30 minutes. This was the first time we had a service outage in about 3 months. So, it was a coincidence that it was raining so hard the first day you...
Brookstone sells a jumbo remote that is compatible with Dish Network receivers.
Jumbo Universal Remote
Dish also sells a remote with a more simplified layout and slightly larger buttons.

Yep, you're right. What I meant to say is that Directv has a dedicated channel for just the FSN Houston games (ch. 678). Dish takes the exclusive FSN Houston games and puts them on a random alternate channel (Which IMO is very annoying).
Directv provides a 24-hour FSN Houston feed along with the FSN Southwest feed. I wish Dish had the same setup but I don't think they have enough bandwidth to have all of the RSNs 24/7. Since FSN Houston is such a small market I doubt it is high on Dish's priority list.
I have found the cheapest (but not the easiest) way is to got a used wireless router and install DD-WRT on it. Once DD-WRT is installed you can configure the router to work as a wireless bridge. You can find used routers everywhere (ebay, craigslist, local yardsale). I bought a like new Linksys...
