Both of these remind me of Major Major in Catch-22.

    Is this a joke??

One of the previous mayors of my town is Harry Baals. He even has a road named after him. Now if you want to get drunk, you can even have a local microbrew, Harry Baals Irish Stout. I also went to school with a Bud Weiser.

Dish Telling Installers HDMI is fixed

Psst. There's not a significant difference between quality made "RCA" cables and component cables. If the conductor, shielding, and connector are quality made, you won't see a difference.

Installer says it can't be installed.....wtf.

The satellite is actually higher then where the dish appears to be "looking" at. The angle is approximately the same as what the LNB is angled away from the center focal point of the dish. It may or may not be possible to install the dish in your case. Unless your neighbor lives in exactly...

HOORAY! Escape from DISH in sight!

FiOS Internet and phone came in the early spring of 2005 around here. It wasn't available until November and December that same year. FiOS TV still isn't officially available yet although it's suppose to be here in the next couple of months. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

What happened with this HD PPV?

I'm not a regular viewer of PPV but the few times I have purchased a movie, there was no issues with recording it and watching it again later (without additional charge).

First Look: The New Weather Channel Interactive

Many of those watches and "false" warnings are not generated by the local station but by the national weather service. They probably have no choice but to display the watches/warnings but they don't have to go into the 5 minute mini-newscast to talk about the upcoming sprinkle. I'm looking...

Updated: Court blocks Permanent Injuction ordering DISH DVRs disabled

Yup. You sure can. And depending on what type of techbabble you put in the application, a patent examiner may even approve it and you get your nice shiney certificate. However, just becaue you have your patent doesn't mean that you get to keep it forever, nor does it cover all transportations...

Updated: Court blocks Permanent Injuction ordering DISH DVRs disabled

Presuming Dish doesn't get the decision overturned, Tivo is already entitled to nearly $90m after interest. I don't see Tivo settling for less then that. As I think was mentioned earlier in this thread, Tivo wants a sustained income, not just a one time infusion (although that can be nice for...

Updated: Court blocks Permanent Injuction ordering DISH DVRs disabled

Don't add fuel to the fire. DirecTV has nothing to do with this. DirecTV just licenses Tivo. Tivo is protecting it's interests.

I dont think Dish wants me as a customer

I would have thought that since you are big on FTA, you could have just asked one of that yahoos where to get the current bin files right before you ban them. ;)

Legal to physucally take my Box/Receiver to my vacation locality?

The 5-6 million VoIP subscribers in the US would disagree that VoIP is an "infrequently used broadband service". Such a service would be ideal for this type of situation where your physical presence and your phone number could move around.

    Lifetime: Sports, Porn, Not Us?

Looking at it from Lifetime's POV, the deal would only be slightly better then if Lifetime wasn't carried at all. The majority of customers would never call to opt in to subscribing to Lifetime. Lifetime wants to get paid a fee for all customers, not just the ones that actually request it...

    Lifetime Launches 'Drop DISH' Campaign

So Charlie is greedy because he doesn't want to pay for an increase (regardless of what the actual increase is). Whouldn't that make him cheap, not greedy. It would appear to me that it's lifetime that is greedy, at least has a significantly higher costs, or some combination of the both.

    EchoStar Dishes Out Rate Hike

FiOS TV can't come soon enough. I'll go from paying $35/month to $40/month for basic programming costs, but I'll gain about 120 channels and VOD. What to do...what to do. Where do I sign up Verizon?

    We DID IT!

Who the heck bumped a 10 month old thread rehasing the same old thing. Let it die guys. It's over. The horse is dead and kicking it won't bring it back to life. And to answer your question RussTC3, your spending $5/month because Dish can charge you $5/month. Simple as that.

OLN Dropped by Dish over Programming Disputes

Your right. It's 1 channel. Today. And tomorrow it's 2 other networks that feel they are important enough to try to demand they too get put into AT60 or AT120 instead of buried in AT180. Charlie and Dish haven't grown over the years by not offering what the majority of their customers want...

OLN Dropped by Dish over Programming Disputes

Charlie sees it the same way. It's the principal of things. If you bend your principals for one network, what stops them all doing it. Charlie negotiated a rate/package structure with OLN and that contract wasn't up. The Comcast wants to come in and change that in order for Dish to broadcast...

Fittings tight or loose on LNBS?

Make both sides happy. Use a tool to snug it up slightly beyond hand tight. You reduce the risk of twisting off the connector inside the component while also ensuring that there is a weathertight fit.

Live Retailer Chat Recap - Oct 13, 2005

If they are going to stay competitive in FiOS markets, they sure the hell better not raise them much. Just on the ~160 "Expanded basic" lineup has Dish beat at the AT120 level. Once Fios TV gets more widespread availablity, Dish will definitely be losing more then a few customers.

    PocketDish -vs- Video Ipod

For the sake of a fair comparison, I think it also would be reasonable to compare the prices between the two different devices. The PocketDish is $599 (7"/40GB), $499 (4"/30GB), or $329 (2.2"/20GB) The Video IPod is $399 (2.5"/60GB) or $299 (2.5"/30GB) So for $200 less, you lose the...
