SF Bay Area - Now 2 local stations w/ news in HD

KTVU looks great? Yeah, their newsroom and graphics are fine but everything else looks like a bad 16x9 480i signal. Haven't seen ABC yet. Curious, which news channel does everyone watch here? regardless of HD or not.

E vs D vs Cable HD resolution

I have Comcast and all their HD channels are at native resolutions (either 1920x1080 or 1280x720) and it stays at a high bitrate (I checked with my TV). HBO, Showtime, Starz, and Cinemax look very nice, no ghosting at all, as well as the rest of the HD channels. Local HD channels are very close...

    hd- compression

Not only will it look worse on your locals, there's also about a 7-10 second delay + re-compression with the sound vs OTA. If you can, I would recommend getting the best of both worlds. Connect the antenna to the Dish HD receiver.

    L3.58 Spotted!

The audio sync issue is on the station's side and appears on all HD feeds, including OTA and cable. I've tested it myself.

    E* HD locals from OTA

Well, I was comparing my HD local Comcast feed with the HD local Satellite feed. E*'s was delayed 10 seconds, I was shocked. Looks like I'm going to use cable for my locals. Also, the HD E* feed sounded more raspy/thinner like it was re-encoded from the original sound format. Even the SD local...

    Help moving a receiver

Okay so I want to move my VIP211 to a TV where its receiving a feed from a 522 via cable (2nd tuner). How do I switch the cable in that room to receive the feed from the satellite instead of the 522 receiver? I hope I don't have to get a tech to come out here and pay $99.

    CNBC in HD ?

That would be interesting. Another HD channel to the lineup would slowly kill the competition. First I would like to see the TV Guide Channel in HD, and the "Congratulations! You've Got a Dish 500" channel in HD. Also, maybe the knife show in HD. :D

    E* HD locals from OTA

Ouch, so this means they're getting a compressed signal and compressing it even further so that it could be re-broadcasted to clients? Now I'm understanding why everyone's having so much problems and why NBC is always inconsistent with picture quality. When I look at cable, the local picture...

    E* HD locals from OTA

Is E* first getting the HD locals from an OTA antenna, then rebroadcasting it as MPEG4?

Dish won't let me add a 2nd HD receiver

I called Dish Network this afternoon and asked them how much it would cost to get another HD receiver for my 2nd HDTV. They said they won't give me one, because I just got one for my first HDTV. What?!! I asked why, and he said I could only add one HD receiver per year. What the hell is this all...

New Dish HD Customer with a couple questions

If you're in the SF Bay Area then you could get to sat 129 no problem. They should install two dishes, its better than one.

SF Bay Area locals are up

Yes, I'm noticing the horrible lipsync problem too. Has anyone emailed Dish Network and gotten a reply back from them about our local HD channels?

New Dish HD Customer with a couple questions

National Geographic HD and HGTV HD will be available to all customers who receive all VOOM programming. Basically if you have an MPEG4 receiver, and you're subsribed to any HD Pack (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum), you'll get it. You will only get Starz HD if you're subscribed to the Starz...

SF Bay Area locals are up

I emailed dishquality and told them to fix our locals. Did they already fix the slow movement on CBS? It looks better to me. When you lose an HD channel, just think.. maybe Dish Network is fixing it? :)

The quality is okay, its pretty decent right now. If you could get an OTA antenna, go for it.

SF Bay Area locals are up

Wow, so the audio sounds fine while HD programming is broadcasted. That makes sense. I should of known that. Well, NBC is such a waste of HD space if the picture is just unwatchable. We should have WB or UPN instead. Is it really because of Weather Plus? How does that affect NBC's bandwidth? I...

    CHANNEL CHANGING D*vs E*

The E* receivers have very slow decoders. Have you tried changing digital channels in a comcast or verizon fios box? VERY fast. EDIT: Or maybe E* has a longer buffer delay?

For those of you who have normal audio on KTVU, how do you have your receiver hooked up to the TV? Mine still sounds like tin cans..

    CHANNEL CHANGING D*vs E*

Maybe its because D* compresses their channels to a bitrate so low that it loads quicker? I remember when Comcast first launched their digital cable service, they had like only 10 digital channels so their bitrate was very high, each channel loaded in 15 seconds but the PQ was unbelivable. In...

    PBS anyone?

I don't know why Dish isn't providing much local HD. We have way too many digital PBS stations here in SF and I think one thats HD 24/7. I really want to set up an HD antenna right now but it seems too complicated to get the cable through the house.
