DISH Designates AWS-4 as Downlink; 3GPP Working Group Completes Band 70 to Integrate DISH Spectrum

Essentially Dish has gotten a "standard" to match their spectrum holdings. That way they can get radio chipsets built to accommodate their holdings. While it is probably unlikely that this will go into a cell phone chip, it could go into a chipset aimed at fixed wireless broadband. It looks...

    Echostar 18 Launch Approx 4:15 EDT June 18 2016

They could do that, they could add more markets in HD that are SD now, mirror more markets that are Eastern Arc, etc.

FCC Set Top Box Vote-- Feb 18

No, satellite companies like Dish would have to be able to deliver their programming to your choice of set top box. Essentially Dish could offer a hopper without TV output (or DVR) as a hub for your house and you connect over Ethernet to this hub with your choice of TV box/DVR. The consumer...

How a threat to drop AMC could kill the cable bundle By Claire Atkinson December 29, 2015 |

Actually, if dropping a channel saved a sub $3/month, it would probably save the cost of buying the one show that they watch on that network, and buying on iTunes instead... "The Walking Dead" is AMC's biggest claim to fame. If you only watch that show, having your cable company drop it and...

Wall Street is reporting that DISH and T-mobile in Merger talks

Dish will come up with the money one way or another. They need to close the deal and have the spectrum asset. Then of course is the problem that they have just so many years to start using it...

8PSK Conversion Update as of 6/9/15

DISH Statement Regarding FCC Draft Order on Designated Entity Credits in Auction 97

8PSK Conversion Update as of 6/9/15

I can see Dish adopting HEVC for 4k channels. They have way too big of an investment in MPEG4 now to switch HD over HEVC any time soon.

8PSK Conversion Update as of 6/9/15

HD LiLs are already 8PSK and MPEG4, so it is limited to SD improvements only. If Dish really wanted to spend money, they should drop all the SD receivers, then they would not even have to worry about this.

Switch Help Needed (an easy one for those who know)

I have not done 2 of the DPP44s, but I have done a DPP 44 and a DPP33 for 7 TVs, it makes it easier since the DPP33 is not externally powered like the DPP 44. In theory you could split each LNB to a DPP44 and a DPP33 and then put a DPP33 on the DPP44 for 10 TVs 3 satellites. Then use the...

8PSK Conversion Update as of 6/9/15

If they did convert the spot beams they could probably increase SD picture quality (HD locals are already 8PSK), probably not a high priority for Dish. Now if they needed the space for things like adding another market then I could see them doing it. Of course if the equipment they have in...

DISH wins a court battle (at least for now)

Once it got to a federal court the employer would win... That is essentially what the CO supreme court was saying.

8PSK Conversion Update as of 6/9/15

Locals really do not need to be converted to 8PSK. They are on spot beams, so when your locals are converted, space is not freed up for more national channels. Now it could be possible for Dish to improve the picture quality by allocating more bandwidth to the locals with the switch to 8PSK...

DIRECTV says it will go all HD in 2016 , what about DISH?

Even if a channel is not available in HD, if Dish (or DIRECTV) gave the channel the bandwidth/compression of an HD channel, the picture would look far, far better. Pristine broadcast SD is DVD quality - SD looks as bad as it does because it is way over compressed.

FCC might reject Dish's "small business" discounts from last auction

Not really, if this were truly the intent, ATT/VZ/TM/S would be using small shell companies in every auction to get the small business discount. They clearly knew the rules and are not trying for a discount. Do you really think a court would rule that the federal government owes Dish 3 billion...

FCC might reject Dish's "small business" discounts from last auction

Everyone knew Dish was working with and had majority owner ship of these two companies. I do not really see an issue if Dish takes turns bidding via different companies. But, I do have an issue with Dish trying to claim they are small operators and deserve a fee break when Dish has significant...

FCC might reject Dish's "small business" discounts from last auction

Using proxies is allowed by the rules. But, when the proxies claim a 3.3 billion discount on a 13 billion bid(s) for being a small business is when the government takes notice! The small business concept was mainly conceived for rural areas where a local cell operator could set up service in...

    Dish to Drop Weather Channel?

Actually all my TiVos are OTA capable Romeos and I will simply go OTA/OTT if cable card goes away. Of course then they will want to get rid of OTA next... Ironically as part of my cable bundle I am forced to have a DVR and pay a monthly DVR fee... I have it unplugged and stored on a shelf...

    Dish to Drop Weather Channel?

The real reason the fees exist is to move profits below the line where they are not in the advertised price. The only reason it works with TiVo is that the FCC has mandated that cable card be made to work on cable systems.
