    Smithsonian Channel HD

Once upon a time Dish carried the Smithsonian Channel HD. I don't know how often Dish has changed its mind and started carrying a channel they dropped other than those dropped during carriage disputes.

HD Bitrate is under 5 Mb/s for most channels - is this correct?

Its 1080i60 or 1080i/30. Field in one case and frames in the other. The 1080i/30 is the preferred notation of the EBU.

Dish Network and Tivo Settle Lawsuit!!!!

Hmm. Anyone want to predict how long it will take to get rid of their TiVo Workaround that caused the problems with the skip buttons? Now that they can use the TiVo patent, they should be able to go back and use this and the stuff that was built-in the hardware chips, all of which they were...

Dish Network and Tivo Settle Lawsuit!!!!

Is this initial $300 m in addition to the money they were ordered to pay in the last ruling, or does it include any pending amount ordered by the court? If the later than this is a real deal for E*. The $200 million over 6 years is than much less than some estimates of what some estimated for...

    Dish getting pricey

Several companies, ex Fios, offer bundles. My bundle including Fios Internet 35/35, phone, and HD Ultimate + various taxes, is essentially the same as what I would have been paying for Dish if I had stayed with them.

    3D on Dish??????

Quadrophonic is alive and well and currently popular in 5.1 and 7.1 formats. I think that the broadcast 3d need to change. Currently, as broadcast by DirecTv, its so called side by side format. This format is essentially unwatchable by conventional HDTVS. It appears as squished images on...

RF output for TV2 compatibility (VIP622)

Be careful with that statement about "All Tvs with a built-in tuner will..." there are already some out their that will only tune ATSC. True most still do NTSC. And of course all are now rquired to tune ATSC over the channels still being broadcast, which incidentally no longer goes to 69 but...

RF output for TV2 compatibility (VIP622)

Most TV's still include NTSC tuners. However some do not. So Obviously you need to check each model you are interested in. If I found the right DYNEX model on their site that doc says it has a NTSC/ATSC tuner (I sugest you check their site yourself as I could not get the bestbuy site to...

    Guide button on VPI612

Its a feature not a bug. I think there is also an option that allows you control if this pop up shows or if it behave the old way. Having now left dish, I cannot check for where the option is.

Remote Access: Primary & Secondary DNS

Although what you say is common it is not true for all routers. E.g one router I used to use defaulted to 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3 for the DNS servers. And I have seen some that give the real DNS servers of the ISP. So it is essentially what your DHCP server assigns. And for the person...

What is with the war on what cable to be used?

Don't know what the requirement for DirecTv, but Dish needs RG-6 swept to at least 2150 mhz (preferrably 3000 mhz).

    It was the stupid separator

I had to replace one on one of my ViP622's. Fortunately had an extra from when I had a 921. No these things are not very complicated. But that doesn't mean they can't fail.

Where is the 80 channel horse racing package?

Yep, just what dish subscribers need several tranponders totally taken up with 80 channels of horse racing.

Senate Fails To Pass Satellite Extension Extension

I thought the legislation also is what allowed them to offer LIL without paying for those who wanted Must Carry status. I know that most majors stations do not insist on Must Carry and instead have agreements with DISH and DirecTv.

What's the deal with leased receiver fees?

The agreement, that you should have a copy of, allows them to make any changes they want at any time.

    Post Your Bill

I thought I'd post my newest bill which shows the new prices. Essentially up $7 now, and $23 in 6 months. Note I will be gone to Fios next month. The price increases and nonsense with having to pay for a new dish (currently have 110/119/61.5) have driven me away.

    UPS says keep receipt

If you don't find that the tracking # shows up on the UPS service site show up as delivered. FOLLOW THRU with contacting Dish and UPS. I've returned receivers twice, and both times it never shows up as delivered (I think it showed out for delivery but no futher). Apparently UPS delivers so...

Can you get the new HD from DISH?

Unless you have some problem with line of site you should be able to get 72 or Eastern Arc. I don't see locals at least for Ithaca itself but your zipcode show Syracuse HD locals on 61.5 but SD locals on 110. Essentially Eastern ARC with a 110 side dish. I don't think they have made up their...

Shows on EHD are erased after watching! Known problem?

Some people have reported that the problem may be fixed in L6.25. That release started rolling out on 2/2 and should now have reached all 622/722's. Anyone still having the problem with L6.25 please post.

    119/110/61.5/129 question

Are you sure you're not getting a 1000.4 (EA). Rochester NY is well within the area were they wouldn't install a dish for 129 in the past.
