I'm Mad & Disappointed With Dish

When things go wrong, I sometimes go pick a fight with a fish. Most of the time, though, the line just ends up bobbing in the water.

Does dish have to be grounded?

Another by the book idiot who doesn't even understand what the book is about. NFPA is concerned about protecting life and property. With the coax grounded, neither is in danger.

Ever stop to think that he didn't have a choice in the matter of his employment. The housing bubble burst six years ago, taking many tradesmen out with it.

Does dish have to be grounded?

Re-read my post and decide for yourself if the dish needs to be grounded or not. According to NEC code, yes. However, the NEC code doesn't make exceptions for individual circumstances where an antenna system doesn't need grounding, such as when the cabling portion of it is grounded. NEC codes...

Does dish have to be grounded?

OK, there are two separate NEC codes at work here. Both came about under separate circumstances. One code was written to govern the grounding of antenna systems. If you remember, off-air antennas were first installed with 300-ohm flat wire. There was no way to ground that flat wire. In the event...

    What's the actual azimuth of satellite's ?

The elevation given is the actual elevation angle to the satellite from your geographical location. The offset of the LNB doesn't really matter. We use offset dishes now because some genius got it in his head that it would be wise to move the feedhorn away from the sweet spot of the incoming...

FTC Sues Dish for Do Not Call Violations

I deal with the telemarketers by telling them I am interested and that I need a second to go get my credit card. Then I put the phone down and don't return until I hear that phone noise that indicates there is no other party present on the line. I've had some of them fools wait 20+ minutes...

Dish Rated as Worst Company to Work For by Employees

I don't remember if as a tech we got holiday pay because that was a long time ago. It pains me to hear that the DNS techs don't get holiday pay because (as recently as 2011), CSC staff got holiday pay (8 or 10 hrs of straight time) added to their check each week that included a holiday on top of...

Dish Rated as Worst Company to Work For by Employees

From the article: In order to identify America’s worst companies to work for, 24/7 Wall St. examined employee reviews at online job site Glassdoor. To be considered, companies had to have a minimum of 300 reviews. Of the 202 companies that made the initial screen, the company reviews were...

Moving to a new home new home wiring

Few, if any, installers will do a two-story wallfish. It can be pretty tricky, especially if the first floor walls don't line up with the second floor walls. My house is like this. To do the structured wiring in my first floor, I had to drop the lines into the subfloor. I did that by creating an...

    Tip the Installer?

As an installer, I can say that a tip in general not expected and doesn't happen that often. However, when it does happen, we are very grateful. Of course, that's here in AZ and most markets. Las Vegas was a different story. People dropped tips on me all the time there, I guess it's just because...

    Dish/Echostar Employee Discount Program?

I was speaking more towards those customers who don't have any pay TV providers in their house. TV is often not a big part of their life, they don't usually have the latest 55" OLED with Blu-Ray, etc. More often they just Netflix, Hulu, or RedBox for the content they want. However, Blu-Ray is...

    Dish/Echostar Employee Discount Program?

I wouldn't call the VOOM thing a "cutting losses" situation with DISH. They acquired a lot of transponders on 61.5 with that purchase. IIRC, VOOM was in bankruptcy when DISH bought them. Acquiring their transponder rights would have been a lot more expensive at an FCC auction. VOOM committed...

    Dish/Echostar Employee Discount Program?

When I was a csr there, the new CSRs had their existing accounts transferred from the 8255 prin to the employee prin which automatically had the AT250 discounted. Originally it was at120 but when they really started pushing dishscriber they upped it to at250. I think that was 1/2011 when they...

International Packages No Longer Available for New Customers

Seems a lot of the packages are still intact on DISH's website. I have an install for an Indian customer but I'm wondering if I should alert the retailer to this situation as it could result in a backcharge if the customer disconnects. Anyone know if I can activate a customer getting Indian Mega...

    DN500 Installation/Location Question

Alright. How about, it's a violation of code and the power company can disconnect your power at the pole if they feel the dish is a hazard. They probably will. Reconnection at the pole is pretty expensive as it has to be done live.

    DN500 Installation/Location Question

Seriously, don't attempt this! Those power wires are not protected by your panel's 200 amp breakers. You accidentally touch those and you can get in excess of 50,000 amps through your body.

    The birdog meter

Directv's 119 LNB doesn't receive the lower transponders because they put the 3 transponders from 110 on the lower end of 119. So any Birdog data plan for DirecTV 119 isn't going to include those lower transponders. It's just a question of if DISH's LNBs for 119 are tuning the higher...

    OTA Preamp

Garbage in = garbage out. It's better to push the signal than to try and pull it. Amplifiers don't make a distinction between noise and desired signal. It tries to amp it all to a consistent level. So noise is then increased, often at a 3 to 1 ratio. A high signal-to-noise ratio is needed to...
