    hdmi to dvi vs. component

I cannot tell the difference between component and HDMI/DVI. I think the entertainment industry created DVI just so we cant copy stuff they dont want us to.

    D* dominating

Yeah I for one have had the HDMI problem. I have had three HD Tivo units with a bad HDMI port. In all of the instances Directv support was incredible and shipped me out a replacement each time. Finally I now have one that works great. While I was waiting for my replacement unit, I switched to...

CSR told buddy that Dish is buying VOOM

Here's an unreliable friend of a friend story. But who knows? Anyway, My wife has a family member (who is usually drunk) in Colorado who works near Dish HQ. This guy knows an engineer at DISH. He claims that the engineer told him in confidentiality that Charlie has made it a priority to...

Dolby Dig outpt frm PVR510 to audio system

I highly doubt a converter can take an optical signal and then convert it to RCA standard audio. Since the 510 does not have a coaxial output, you must use a Toslink to Toslink. Take the converter back to Radio Shack, sell your current receiver and get another Home Theater receiver with...

How to get out of my Dish Contract?

I say give Directv a call. Tell them you are a Dish subscriber. Tell them You want to switch but Dish will charge you $200 if you cancel. Then say "Is there anything you could do about that?" I'll bet you they tell you something like "We'll give you $200 worth of Free showtime" or...

Can my dish network wireing be used for Directv

Paradox - SimpleSimon suggests you use a diplexer which basicaly merges your OTA and sat signal on one cable. Although this works very well for some, it doesnt work too well for many from my experience. I strongly suggest you ask your installer to run a seperate coax for the OTA.

Can my dish network wireing be used for Directv

Yes your current cables will work fine. However if you're installing an OTA Antenna or receivers with dual tuners, additional cable will have to be run.

Do I Need an 811 HD Receiver?

You would only need an 811 if your TV does NOT have a built in HD tuner. Most TV's (except for the real high priced ones) do not have a built in HD tuner but I suggest you check first before buying an 811.

How to Keep PPV You Ordered, Off Your Statement??

Isnt there an online statement only option? I know D* has one I thought E* does too. You can then print it out after you finish editing it Also, when I had Dish I noticed that If there was a credit balance on my account, they would not send me a bill. You could prepay your bill now, edit the...

Can I get any credit if I threaten to go to cable?

Dclarke I strongly suggest you tell Dish exactly how you feel. Just let them know, its cheaper for you to upgrade to an HD Tivo than it is to get a 921 If you spend more than $70 month on programming, I guarantee you the Dish rep will do whatever he/she can to keep your business.

    Dish. Won't. Let. Go.

I did the same thing last month. Except that I put on a fake Indian accent (I have an Indian name but was born here) and told him my job was outsourced back to India and I have to move back to India. Worked like a charm..closed my account in 2 seconds Anyway, are you glad you switched...

Complete frustration with DISH and moving

Very easy solution to this problem. Call dish back and tell them you want to cancel your service. The rep will ask you why and then after you explain it, they'll waive the $50. Charlie has given strict orders to have customer retention (especially those with a high ARPU) a top priority.

Has anyone lost all of his or her recorded programs?

Todd: Tha exact same thing happened to my 501 and 508. It happened to me once many years ago. Since then I have never let the drive get too full. If I have less than 5 hours of record time left, then I start erasing programs. Since I started doing this I have never had a problem.

What would you do if you were me?

OK Lets assume I switch to direct from Dish and have a 1 year contract with direct. Lets say after a few days I realize the PQ is not as good as Dish. Can I get out of Direct without penalty? Is there a grace period where Direct will let you "try it out"? Or am I stuck with Direct from Day 1...

What would you do if you were me?

Thanks for the tip rad - I'll check it out. As if I werent confused enough, NightRyder, you say your SD viewing on your samsung DLP is "tolerable". Have you ever tried SD from Direct? Perhaps that might make it more tolerable??? Currently, I have a run of the mill Sony 61" Rear Projection...
