    upgraded receiver

I think we've gone off the rails here. I didn't say we never need a tech. I called one to install a new outlet. What I was trying say is the Directv/Comcast story that the newer receivers can't be self installed isn't necessarily true. If you can install the HR54 yourself, which Directv will let...

    upgraded receiver

The reason new customer self install is available is because most homes are already wired for cable. So, no you don't need to run your own coax lol

    upgraded receiver

I agree the filter is important that's why I called to have it installed. However, they don't install the filter on the pole. The guy that installed my new outlet went up the pole because he thought my signal was a bit weak. I could see what was up there, it was just a splitter feeding four...

    upgraded receiver

Of course not everyone can do the work themselves. And for what we pay we shouldn't be expected to. What I find funny is the claim that a tech is necessary for the HS17 or any other new receiver that at least some of us can install ourselves. There's no practical reason to deny us the self...

    upgraded receiver

If I had to call a tech every time I need to setup wifi... Lol

    upgraded receiver

Don't know why the tech is necessary, it's just a DVR without a TV output. All that's needed is an extra Genie Mini. BTW, do they charge for the extra Mini that's needed with the HS17?

DOJ Wants AT&T To Sell DTV Or Turner

    What was wrong with Dish?

DOJ Wants AT&T To Sell DTV Or Turner

I've had Netflix for years, never a problem. What you're talking about is either an internet connection problem or more likely a network problem. If you get your router from your ISP, go to the office and swap it out. You could also try moving your router closer to the streaming device. Also...

DOJ Wants AT&T To Sell DTV Or Turner

Well, save me some reading time if you don't mind. What's the reason AT&T is launching another streaming TV service when Directv Now is so popular?

DOJ Wants AT&T To Sell DTV Or Turner

AT&T said not long ago they would be launching another streaming TV service this summer, this one without the Directv brand. Maybe they were already planning to drop Directv?

Remote DirecTV with a H25 Receiver

Unless your dish is super old, its probably a SWM dish which is what you need. It sounds like you're just missing the power inserter. You can buy it here DIRECTV 29-Volt SWM-8/SWM-16/SWM-30 Multiswitch Power Inserter (PI-29Z) from Solid Signal

Problems with the DIRECTV Genie 2

CSR told me today they can send me an HS17 with an HDMI port. They would know, right? They also tell me the new Genie Mini is super fast, so it must be true, right?

Problems with the DIRECTV Genie 2

You and I both know that a CSR would have explained the lack of an HDMI port, I mean is there any doubt?

Problems with the DIRECTV Genie 2

I tried to get an HS17 but they sent me a faulty one, it didn't have an HDMI port. Don't they check these things before they ship them out?

    DVR with RV dish

Not really. I have no way of running two coax cables to the same room in the RV. I hope the SWM8 switch works.

    DVR with RV dish

fair enough and I do need two HR24s to feed two TVs but I can live with one tuner per DVR but would prefer to have all four tuners working if possible.

    DVR with RV dish

See? I asked at least twice on here if connecting the HR24 directly to the RV dish without a switch would work and never got an answer until now. In any case, I get the impression that Directv doesn't care much about RV customers so I think I'll take your advice and wait. Thanks for all the help

So you're saying I should go with Dish Network instead :biggrin

    DVR with RV dish

I'm not sure about that Winegard $190 switch anymore. I'm starting to think it's just a standard SWM8 switch with a splitter included. I've seen the SWM8 switch elsewhere for a lot less.

    DVR with RV dish

That's right it should work with a Genie, that's the setup I was looking at but this article says it won't work Can you use a Genie DVR in your RV or boat? - The Solid Signal Blog but this page says every receiver, including the Genie will work DIRECTV Compatible Satellite Antennas for RV...

Considering buying an HR54 to replace a dead HR34

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this already but if you buy a Directv receiver from Solid Signal, you aren't actually buying it, you won't own it. It'll still be a lease. You'll be spending $300 for nothing. If you want the HR54 from Directv, just ask for 4K and make sure you don't get the HS17...
