as far as i know the d-models are not multisat compatable. i know the d-1 d-2 are not. The e-models i believe is when they became multi-sat compatable

It is more than likely the multiswitch,wether it is a oval dish with the switch built into the head or a seperate switch i have changed multiswitches for this problem on numerous occasions.

This is possible if you have the dish pointed at the 119 position is this a dtv box being used on an aold dishnet dish if so then your dish is pointed at the wrong bird.

no it doesn't make a difference all it does is shut the box off just like you would a regular box

multi switch and new install if you are getting a multi sat dish it has four ports on the lnb meaning the switch is already there for what you need if it is a round dish the switch should be supplied by installer. depending on where you bought the system from ie. radio shack,circuit city etc...
