Directv dispute with Viacom IS OVER!

It is extra easy when I am on the Iceberg drop/renew schedule as there is always a reminder. ;) I called in and it was automated as well. I wonder if this is a side effect of the dispute (i.e. normally they want to talk to you to try and make you buy other things or keep the HD Extra Pack...

    TCM HD coming July 19th

I flipped over to check if it was live... The only way to tell is that when you click for info there is an "HD" after TCM. Beyond that, it looks exactly the same... This has to be the least needed transition to HD yet (although I still might contend that Shorts is a bigger waste of bandwidth...

    HD Extra Pack confusion...

I dropped it and added it again today. They didn't even pester me this time to get an internet bundle or a premium channel I didn't want. The phone call was under 2 minutes.

    HD Extra Pack confusion...

I called to remove today as I had a partial month charge on my new bill being my 3 months was to be up March 5th. It took me 1 minute to get to someone, 5 minutes to process and 30 second to turn down the sales pitch for other offers I did not want. I logged in and out of my account online...

D* appaluds introduction of new video deregulation bill.

It's in "glorious" 4x3. They have a laundry list of reasons why they won't offer it in HD, starting with the fact that they don't have an HD contract with Fox. Secondly, even if they did have said contract they don't have an OTA FCC license to broadcast both channels in HD because of mandated...

D* appaluds introduction of new video deregulation bill.

In my local DMA, the broadcaster of FOX said they have no plans of EVER changing over to HD and basically told me I am lucky that I even have FOX. I requested a waiver. They denied it immediately. I requested an HD waiver. They denied that immediately too. I explained that they were sticking me...

    When is Directv getting G4?

Tech TV was awesome. G4, not so much. The only thing I ever watched after the change over was occasional E3 coverage and other live tech events (although much like Screen Savers turning into Attack of the Show, the tech coverage was watered down, over produced and unnecessarily glitzy.) I...

    New HD GUI

I see the HD guide as more of an incremental update than anything groundbreaking. Now there is all this screen real estate, yet you can still only see 1.5 hours of the guide at a time going left to right and 3-6 channels top to bottom (depending on the level of banner spam.) It is faster, which...

Free Preview - HD Extra Pack October 13, 2011 through October 20, 2011

I have it set in my calender app to remind me to remove it every three months and then sign back up. Another "trick" I use is calling in every 3 months to cancel Showtime/Starz. As soon as I get off the phone it shows back up online with the deal to get both for a special price.

D* and BBC: Can one thing lead to another?

Same here. There is this ridiculous idea floating around that just because you have all the premium channels, you suddenly don't care about basic HD. Being I have the premium channels mainly for original programming, the new additions really didn't add much value for me personally. I'd give...

Need a new remote? Check out woot today!

They are not yet privatized and were only given consent to privatize on June 13th. 2011 via The Postal Services Act 2011. The fact that they turned a profit in previous years under complete government control doesn't say anything as to the future of the private company and what type of mail...

Need a new remote? Check out woot today!

You mean the mail service that covers a geographical area slightly smaller than Oregon which is still fully owned by the government and has yet to earn a single penny as a private company? Yes, we should overhaul our mail system and copy one that was just created by law two months ago...

Need a new remote? Check out woot today!

You are missing the point. If the post office was privatized, they'd get rid of regular mail service as it is the least profitable area of their operation (e.g. They could focus on the higher end, more profitable Fedex/UPS/DHL market.) So, what you are in effect saying is that you'd like a...

Need a new remote? Check out woot today!

Actually, that has more to do with redundant infrastructure and first class mail. If USPS only did Priority/Express type mail services, they could close 95% of their offices and cut 95% of their staff and turn a profit. There is a big difference between delivering 100 packages into an area of...

    Picture-in-picture

What killed PIP was the dumbing down of American society. One less button to click and mess something up, one less tech support call. That said, there are millions and millions of Dish and Comcast users enjoying the benefits of PIP right now and from the perspective of someone who likes the...

    Picture-in-picture

You should really phase everything as, "in my opinion" because your ridiculous blanket statements about a feature many people enjoy are coming off as obnoxious... You don't like pip. We get it. Just move on. A lot of people actually love the feature and it is one of the most cited things...

Well, that is clearly your opinion. Not one I and many others share, but to each their own I suspect. Although, it seems that you have not used the E* implementation of PIP, so you are not really speaking from a position of authority concerning my points.

Windows 8 is 100% software, yet it is going to cost a billion dollars to implement. You point is moot as resources cost money, period. But I do find it interesting you are waging a vendetta against something you don't use, care about and claim costs nothing...

    Picture-in-picture

There are plenty of reasons. I switch during a commercial to news and when the game comes back on I just needed to hit swap. It was that easy (instead of randomly flipping back and forth.) Also, when following two football games, I'd make them equal size and then zip off to the breaking...
