Something to consider re: D* CSR reps

Yep. I've had more than one "conversation" with the Filipino CSRs. Ok for simple stuff, forget about anything even remotely complex.

    HR20 and Heavy Rain

Fans activate when I turn on my Home Theater (HT) receiver. The 12v trigger activates a switched outlet on a Panamax 5510EX, which controls the fans.

    HR20 and Heavy Rain

Yes, same exact thing has happened to me, with an HR20-700. After an unusually heavy rain, the receiver will be frozen, with a pixellated screen. Either an unplug or RBR will fix the situation... until it rains heavily again. Under normal circumstances all signals are in the 90's. I do use a...

    MDU Systems + MPEG4 + 5 LNB Dishes

Pace is NOT a retail entity, which is why many of their items are not priced on the web. I'd call them anyway to get an ETA for the MFH-2

    MDU Systems + MPEG4 + 5 LNB Dishes

There is already the technology in place for MDU providers to suppply their users with signal from the ka-band satellites. Pace (PACE Electronics :: Satellite Equipment, Tools, Supplies&More) has even come up with several different setups, including a single-wire solution and a fiber...

    Scott's DirecTV Diary Comments

Re: Scott's experience with a rude CSR: welcome to D* CSR roulette! Whenever I get a noncooperative or rude CSR I just hang up and call again. Most of the time the second call gets you a much more understanding and friendly person. If the second call doesn't work try again, and if THAT...

    What do I need?

If you want something done right, do it yourself! Good that you're doing a self-install! Good luck in this, if you can get us the same access the other site has, I'll be very happy. I don't like going to separate sites for my info, and would much rather stay here. But, to be truthful, I've...

    What do I need?

Scott: Go with the 5 LNB, otherwise when the new birds go up you'll be SOL with the new HD programming! As far as equipment, well the H20 is a horrid receiver (I've had two that would reset every 5-10 mins), but there's no non-DVR HD alternative. The D10-11 is very stable but is SD. So, in...

How come there is no self install option for an HR20?

Value Electronics is my favorite, they are fast for shipping, great cust. serv. and of course no tax and free shipping. $299 and in all likelihood you can get some sort of credit from the CSR (or retention if the CSR is uncooperative)..

HR20: Radically different signal readings between tuner 1 and tuner 2?

Ok, thanks for that. My symptoms are pretty much identical to the OP on that thread... I'll try the resetting multiswitch thing, mine is a 5x12, don't have a Ka/Ku dish yet. Strange that I had the exact same problem on 2 different DVRs.

HR20: Radically different signal readings between tuner 1 and tuner 2?

I only ran my second line for tuner 2 this weekend. Imagine my surprise when running the signal meter, the readings were wildly different (much, much lower on tuner 2). At first, I thought I had messed something up in the install. Flipped the lines (tuner 2's line to tuner 1) and the...

Very cool. I can't wait til the new features start coming online. Neither my H10 nor H20 have ever had success connecting through Vonage. I took a look at my call records a couple days ago and there were hundreds of attempts made but no successful connections. I'll connect the HR20...

    hr-20/700---so far so good...

Reading the networking doc, I came across a part that implied this could be used as your DVR's manner of connecting with D*... is this already enabled? Could I not use the phone connection this way? I have Vonage and half of my receivers can't complete the call in. I'm a (very) late...

Just connected/activated my HR20 today... I had to leave for work so I can't really say anything except that it worked OK this morning. Can anyone tell me if the ports on the back, specifically the SATA and Ethernet ports, are enabled? And if so, what can they be used for? (One would assume...

    HR20 - HDMI or Componet?

I have both connected to my Optoma RD50 DLP 50-inch RPTV. I actually CAN tell a difference between the component and HDMI outputs, although it's very (VERY) small. There's better color saturation, and less "rainbow effect." I can see no difference as far as resolution goes.

FYI on Diplex w/ new Dish

This comment got my attention. Why would you need another dish just to add one more HR20? You can just get a bigger multiswitch and keep using only one dish. There are several manufacturers that are building Ka/Ku switches with up to 16 ports.

Possible to receive all channels on different bird?

I actually LOST signal with the Invacom 0.3! So far my best results have been with the Cal-Amp LNB. You should be ok with an 8-foot dish if you're south of the border, as far down as El Salvador. They are selling for around $1000 now in the area.
