You may want to be asking this in the Direct TV section. Not too many Dish Network user will be familiar with Direct equipment.

Post this in the correct forum then. Dish does not work the same way as Direct tv.

You should be able to record to a dvd recorder by playing in on the dvr and recording on the recorder. You should be able to get a good quality dvd by using the s-video. It is the HD outputs which will not let you record. You cannot transfer the files and play back or burn a dvd as Dish encodes...

Local HD supplied by Dish are mpeg4 (although some were mpeg2 when they started). OTA locals are not compressed.

I have XM and Dish Network with Sirius. Both are commercial free. As far as DJ's, they do have them, They are not on after every song. More like 15-20 minutes, and mostly what they talk about are what is playing on other channels, and only similar to channel being listened to.
