Did anyone switch from satellite to streaming (DirecTV Stream or other service) and then switch back?

BTW: I tried switching back to 5.1 audio this evening, and the stuttering is still gone. I'll be curious to see if it returns after some time. Reddit posts suggest quitting and restarting the app will also temporarily fix the stuttering problem.

Did anyone switch from satellite to streaming (DirecTV Stream or other service) and then switch back?

What kind of problems? I had a 64" Samsung plasma for years and streamed all the time. The only reason I don't still have it is the panel died and no replacement parts were available. It was the best TV I ever had. 600Mhz refresh rate made for very smooth motion without SOE. 1080p content...

What device(s) are you using to watch YTTV? Do you have an AppleTV to test on?

Did anyone switch from satellite to streaming (DirecTV Stream or other service) and then switch back?

Well, if it is the stuttering artifacts I see, it probably is what I posted. If it is just poor PQ with smooth motion, then probably something else. Either way, it is something to try. Good luck. I have seen some serious macroblocking artifacts on some channels, like BBC World as well, so it...

You are likely hitting a known bug in the AppleTV app for YTTV. Try switching audio output to Stereo in the AppleTV settings and see if the problem goes away. I see similar issues, and I actually just contacted YTTV support about the issue again today.

    AT&T completes DIRECTV spinoff.

To be fair, both my wife and my mom have complained about the large (huge, giant, what have you) satellite dishes we've had on our homes. Both are very happy to no longer have them. Size is relative I guess.

DIRECTV SD / HD Changes coming

I just think people would be happier if they watched more ESPN, or other sports/entertainment channels, than cable "news" all the time.

    Yes...hence the unhappiness.

Gotta say, people would be a lot happier if these weren't three of the most popular channels on TV.

Is that a complaint? ;) Aren't most ISPs over-provisioning their connections to avoid complaints about slowness when speed tests are slower than advertised speeds?

AT&T disappointed with offers for struggling DirecTV

I said it was the best way, not the only way. Converting fiber to copper at the curb requires power is the most obvious obstacle I see. It isn't as if U-verse was that great with the VRAD model, and it wasn't symmetrical, which is more and more important as time passes. As for coax-based...

AT&T disappointed with offers for struggling DirecTV

Almost certainly. The group I was with worked on almost every product since they did systems packaging, PCB design, environmental and RF testing, and field repair analysis (and probably some things I am forgetting due to the intervening years). The product I remember the most "feedback" on was...

Yeah, field testing only gives so much usable results. Anyway, he says the field data he is given about failure rates for fiber are typically consistent with or better than manufacturer's claims. I am sure that data is sanitized to remove incidents involving a backhoe or a car taking out a...

He was talking about what they plan for in the field. It is his job to determine how often they should have to replace/fix things for the bean counters. Certainly a tech upgrade could require new fibers in some cases, just like copper.

After consulting with a friend who works in one of Verizon's test lab, he says: "we plan on having to replace residential fiber lines every 50 years, but expect them to last much longer in practice. Long distance fiber lines are designed to last even longer. It doesn't mean some cables won't...

AT&T disappointed with offers for struggling DirecTV

Most provider-grade backhaul fiber products were designed to last 100 years when I worked at Nortel in 2000. Maybe earlier products had a shorter expected lifespan? The majority of the periodic expense is the equipment upgrades, just like with wireless (e.g. 4G to 5G), and repairs when a line...

They overpaid in that it was expected to help them grow revenue, not shrink it. It is a big black eye on the balance sheet, which investors don't like to see. Like with many things on Wall Street, it doesn't necessarily make sense outside of the bubble (pun intended) of lower Manhattan. Of...

AT&T Fiber's penetration in my neighborhood was about 75% before the pandemic. After some serious issues with Spectrum in April/May 2020, that is more like 90%+. Now Spectrum is finally offering deals on their upper tiers. I could get 400/20 for $50/month for 2 years, if I was willing to...
