If the receiver shuts off it is probably a short in the wire to the frame of the receiver. My cat pulled out a wire not to long ago and that is what happened.

Just my two cents here as I am no expert but what I do know is that Denon is a very sold receiver. It doesn't get very hot and has one of the lowest failure rates. I have had a Denon 3805 receiver for 4 years or so wiith zero hiccups. In fact my cat sleeps on top of it everyday and even her hair...

So far no problems. I ordered online on Thursday, Friday evening I received a UPS tracking number and it now shows I should have it on Wednesday the 24th. Not bad for free shipping and $250 off of their listed price. Another nice thing is that they are an authorized Denon dealer.
