    Onkyo TX-SR 605 & 805 Reviews

Arg!!! Just a bit of venting here. So, an Onkyo repair depot has had my 605 since August 28th, this is the 2nd repair attempt for the same problem. Well, I just found out that they now finally figured out what was causing the problem, but it will be another three weeks before the replacement...

    Onkyo TX-SR 605 & 805 Reviews

I wish you luck. While I'm a big fan of Onkyo products, their tech support is mostly a bunch of d#$%chebags. Just be prepared to duke it out with them. You might get lucky and find a tech support rep that is polite and competent, though.

    Onkyo TX-SR 605 & 805 Reviews

I have the same unit, and I often have it at 50-60 for volume. It goes to 100. 70-75 is about as loud as I've cranked it with my old Athena Point 5 bookshelf speakers. I'm waiting to get my 605 back from repair (it stopped responding to remote control signals) so I can test out my new Polk...

    Shopping for receiver

Either the Onkyo 606 or Yamaha 663 are great options for your price range. Don't over-spend on a receiver, spend as much as you can on speakers. As far as your center speaker goes, what do you currently have for front speakers? It can actually make a big difference if you don't match the center...

    Is This a Good Deal?

yeah, $400 is still too much, many better deals from authorized retailers, including Onkyo's online store (check out their refurb inventory).

    Rcvr upgrade/Master and TrueHD ??'s

I got my Onkyo 605 in December for $305, including shipping from the Onkyo factory outlet. It is a factory refurb with a 1 year warranty instead of two. I've even seen it dip below $300. There have also been great deals on the 705 and 805, too. Just be sure to keep checking back and create an...

    Onkyo 705

Do you have the latest firmware for your BD-UP5000? If memory serves, this player decodes TrueHD, then sends it to the receiver as multi-channel PCM over the HDMI cable. How do things sound with Blu-Ray discs that have a multi-channel PCM soundtrack (Disney titles, for example)? If they sound...

Great deal on a nice home theater in a box

The Onkyo HT-SR800 is a really nice home theater in box, much nicer than anything I've seen in its price range, and Onkyo has a great sale on refurbished units right now. On the official Onkyo outlet website (Shop Onkyo) they have this deal: Shop Onkyo link to the HT-SR800 1. Create an...

    newbie home theater question.

$500 will get you in the game. Most home theater in a box systems aren't that good, and usually lack even basic input options, but there are exceptions. As mentioned earlier, Shop Onkyo has some great options, such as this system: The Onkyo HT-SR800 - 7.1-Channel Receiver/ Speaker Package It has...

    Onkyo sr800 good buy?

Yeah, the SR800 is a good buy. In fact, it can be a great buy at $320 (including shipping!) at the official Onkyo factory outlet store (Shop Onkyo). But, as others point out, there are compromises. Still, if this is the budget range you're playing in, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better...

    Speakers

Try to find speakers that were specifically designed to be wall-mounted. Vibration and resonance can be a real problem when wall-mounting. Some speakers are designed with this in mind, and other speakers are designed specifically to have some open space behind them. I've seen a lot of di-pole...

    Onkyo 605 or Sony 910?

Take those power ratings with a massive grain of salt. Sony tends to indulge in puffery when it comes to their power rating. The 605 has plenty of power. I have a 605, currently with a ViP622 and HD-A2 using the two HDMI inputs, as well as a Wii connected by component. HDMI out to my Toshiba...

    Bose Acoustimass Middle Speaker Issue

Well, the answer is in there. Check the TV. Can it accept speaker wire and act as a center channel? Some TVs can, most that I've seen do not. And I still stand by my earlier statement; Those speakers without a true center channel will sound quite poor. If actually hearing the dialog is...

In the market for a new Sub

There are the usual suspects for this price range, Velodyne, SVS, and HSU. The HSU VTF-2 MK 3 or the SVS PB12-NSD would fit your budget, and both are very nice subs. There are lots of Velodyne choices, too.

    Onkyo 605

Heh... yeah, that's why I'm glad I read the Top 10 Onkyo Receiver Setup Mistakes thread on the AVS Forum site before my 605 showed up ;)

    Bose Acoustimass Middle Speaker Issue

I was once an unfortunate owner of the Bose Acoustimass 5.1 speaker system. all the cube/satellite speakers connect to the "sub" with proprietary cabling. You then use regular speaker wire to connect the Acoustimass module to your receiver. You could simply disconnect the center speaker, then...

    Onkyo 605

The A30 should be fine, I don't know about the Sony BR player, but on the HD-DVD side, you should be just fine, no need to run off and buy new hardware. I have an A2 connected to my 605 by HDMI, and I get the TrueHD. The player internally decodes TrueHD, and DTS-MA core, then sends the decoded...

    Onkyo 605 questions

I have this receiver, here's what will happen. First, I'm 99% certain that your plasma is 720p, not 1080i. AFAIK, all plasma, LCD and DLP TV's are progressive scan, not interlaced. 1080p is pretty recent, so that's why I believe you have a 720p plasma. This is important, depending on what source...

    Need A/V Help...There...I said it!

D'oh! I keep forgetting about the PL2 stuff, that's one disadvantage of having an older AV receiver. I forgot the PL2 processing can now get a LFE channel out of analog stereo source material.

    Need A/V Help...There...I said it!

RCA in (the red/white two connector cable) only sends in analog stereo. Many AV receivers can apply processing on that stereo source, but there's no mistaking that for true 5.1 surround sound. The toslink to coax converter route is really the only option. Be sure to check MonoPrice.com, they...

    speaker match

As much as I like the Pioneer receivers, for the money, I would take a pass on the 1016, and instead head over to Shop Onkyo. They are the factory outlet on Onkyo products. Check back daily, and be sure to create an account with them to get the best deals. Last week, they had a refurb TX-SR605...

    Need some advice !!

There's plenty of dual-zone receivers, but it almost sounds like the OP is looking for a triple-zone receiver, if I'm reading his post correctly. A receiver that supports dual-zone could be wired to output zone 2 to both the bedroom and patio speakers at the same time, but then you would have to...

    AV receiver question???

It depends on your AV receiver. Some simply pass through the signal from the source device, while others will actually convert inputs the the HDMI, for example. This feature is still relatively new, and usually reserved for the high-end receivers. Again, your particular receiver may support...

Help. New Pioneer 816 Center seems to not work?

First, $98?!?! that's a killer deal on a 1st rate receiver. Nice buy. I would recommend running the auto-calibration routine with the mic, it does a nice job, save for the sub level. As far as your center-channel problems are concerned, chances are it has nothing to do with how you have your...
