    Blu-ray Software Deals

Yea, me too. Where's that time machine. Some other really good deals though. "The Lorax" is cheaper in the 3D combo package, than the 2D Disc alone.

Netflix CEO: Will Charge 'premium' For Blu-ray Discs

If the discs cost more there probably isn't a choice (we knew they cost more to prodce). They also seem to be more delicate (I've have a number of blu's that wouldn't play). It just better mean that they will get more copies.

HD content won't play on 32-bit Vista

Vista - games/performance..... Man, Deja-Vu. Didn't I read this thread when XP was released? Yep, every release of Windows has required a faster computer to drive it. Is that really a surprise?

HD content won't play on 32-bit Vista

Is there still a problem playing since neither HD DVD group has activated the content protection flags? I assume an HDCP video card is also NOT needed unless the downrez flag is activated (currently, component out is functional without down-rez). I doubt we'll see any flagging unless...

What will HD DVD Recorders be allowed to copy?

If the new HD DVD recorders keep the 5C protected firewire (currently on DVHS), you'll be able to record content off a firewire equipped HD cable box. I believe that most content is recordable except for PPV events. (under 5C copies cannot be copied). Since no Satellite STB has firewire...

    HD DVD is this true?

There are lots.... Most CRTs are 1080i (although actual measured resolution is usually somewhat less). Then there's Sony SXRD, and the new generation of DLP (I've seen Samsung and Mitsubishi). I believe some plasmas are 1080 too. Here's an example of the Samsung...

Circuit City Blu-ray page (and pricing for $999 Samsung player)

Seems to me, that when Blu-Ray finally hits the shelves they will have to match the Toshiba pricing. Herd something on the news about PlayStation 3 being delayed. Mentioned copy protection concerns. Could this be a cover for blu-ray delays?

Rival HD camps fight over pricing

Not sure why this price cut would be bad for consumers. Seems like a price war is the only good thing about the two standards coming out. Even at $500, with 2 standards, I will not be jumping in.

The List of Blu-Ray Disc titles

No dates. It'll be interesting to see how well they ramp up production. Well, if the first players start a 1 grand, I doubt the demand will be very high. Fortunately, with HD-DVD getting there first @ $500, it seems like Blu-Ray will have to drop the price. With two formats at $500...

New high-definition DVDs to use old video technology?

Sticking with mpeg2 will leave the files bigger making it more difficult to set up hard-drive media servers (assuming blu-ray ever approves a means to transfer the content). Coping and internet distribution becomes more difficult as well. But, that only matters if the new encryption gets...

Samsung to launch dual-standard DVD player (maybe not!)

Well, that's the only way I'm gonna buy a player. Wonder if it'll be more expensive then two non-unified players? Does Samsung make optical drives? Are any of the optical drive makers already working on this? If Samsung gets one out, the other manufacturers will have to follow.
