Blu-Ray and HD-DVD downconverts your output!!!

The flexibility is only because of there aren't portable players, not because there won't be, so it's not really a "restriction." I haven't seen any prices released, so while I do expect them to be a bit higher, I don't think they'll be that much higher. The price point is about as high as it...

Welcome to the Awaited New High Definition "DVDs"

I think The Matrix trilogy, Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Harry Potter are impressive launch titles.

    Analyst Declares Blu-Ray the Winner

I have noticed that DVD+R compatibility is conspicuous in its absence from all of Toshiba's specs. I'm hoping to be able to bring in one of my DVD+R's and test it out before possibly buying one of the units. I don't think this will make or break my decision, since I have a couple other players...

I think it will, not just becuse of the higher resolution, but because the studios will go to great lengths to make these first titles the absolute best HD they can do. The launch titles are some of the biggest movies of the past 10 years, and they will go out of their way to make them amazing...

BestBuy and ValueElectronics are taking pre-orders for Toshiba HD DVD!

No, at least not without a firmware "fix" - the Best Buy site clearly says "480p component video output" I hope you're right. It would be very bizarre if it couldn't play DVD+R disks.

BestBuy and ValueElectronics are taking pre-orders for Toshiba HD DVD!

I saw that buried in the specs, and I was wondering if it meant only HD-DVR-R or actual DVD-R. I didn't think any companies would ever release a player again that wouldn't play DVD+R (or DVD-R). Surely dual-format playback is cheap enough now. I'll wait until they're on the shelf and see if it...
