    Work Continues On Voom Satellites

A press release from the end of Nov 2004, said 38 to 50 months. Past build times can be found here. Though it might not take 38 months to phyiscally assemble a sat, they are not Lockheed's only customer.

    Other Voom Satellites?

Buy them? They barely exist. They are at least three years away from completion for the first one.

This shows what is on AMC-6

There is stuff there. With the right equipment you can pick it up. A FTA system won't work. They are transmitting in a DC2 format and most of the time ITC. They've been testing since at least January.

    Echostar's Use of Rainbow-1 Satellite

It was based on some things I've read a long time ago. I guess I'm remebering it wrong.

    Echostar's Use of Rainbow-1 Satellite

Voom only used the odd transponders on Rainbow 1. The sat has a full compliment of transponders.

MORE BREAKING NEWS: Cablevision files SEC Form 8-K

If you are worth billions, 30 million is insignificant. I used to work at a bank with 20 billion in assets. I was once told that $250 million was insignificant. It's only about 1.25% of its worth.

    Satellite Dish Covers

A cover will only help with snow and ice buildup on the dish. It's not the rain hitting the dish that is the problem. It's the rain and clouds in the atmosphere between the dish and the satellite. That's why you might have rain fade even when it's not raining where you are.

here is some proof that V* and D* may be related or blood brothers.

There are a few transponders frequencies that are not owned by anyone. Thee FCC was letting Echostar use them, but the FCC is now letting Voom use them. That might be where your confusion is coming from. When E* was using them they were transmitted from E* sat, but now that V* is using them...

here is some proof that V* and D* may be related or blood brothers.

Echostar/Dish DOES NOT OWN the sat that Voom uses. Nor does E* lease transponder space to V* from the sat that E* uses.

    VOOM and Local Phone Issues....

Dish already requires a phone line if you have more than 5 receivers. No lawsuits yet. During setup of Windows XP, the serial # is verified, either manually over the phone or automatically on the internet, if you chose. If you did install with an illegal #, Windows Update will not work...

Voom DSR-550 STB vs Star Choice DSR-500 STB

The receivers look similar but are different. The Starchoice receiver doesn't contain an 8psk decoder, the ATSC OTA decoder, a DVI port, nor will it accept the MPEG4 upgrade. The Starchoice receiver does contain an ethernet port, and an IR Blaster.

Stretching OTA Pics on a Wide Screen

They're not 4:3 signals. They are 16:9 signals. They only appear to be 4:3 because the broadcaster is adding the bars to the sides of the image. Most TVs and STBs can't change these signals because they think they are already in 16:9 hd format.
