Closeups: new Echostar TR-50 OTA HD Digital to Analog DVR Receiver

There are a small number of niche LPTV stations in my area, none of which even make a blip on the ratings. Home Shopping Network operates a couple of them, two more are Spanish language religious broadcasters, a couple more have Spanish music videos and infomercials. Not sure who is watching...

Closeups: new Echostar TR-50 OTA HD Digital to Analog DVR Receiver

I stand corrected on the channel number. My understanding was that the frequencies were used by radiotelescopes.

Closeups: new Echostar TR-50 OTA HD Digital to Analog DVR Receiver

Here in the greater LA area every single channel from 2 through 69 is occupied, either by a full power analog, LP/CA, or digital (except 14, 19, and 38 of course - reserved for non-TV uses). It will be interesting to see what changes come February 2009. It's amazing how many people these days...

That's exactly the point I was making. That is the same access fee that they were charging to Sky Angel customers, and for those who only wanted locals. I wonder if you can still get that? $26/mo is still not a bad deal if all you want is HD.

Video - Echostar Tr50 Atsc Dvr

Now that I think about it a bit, the TR-50 might be a decent product to use with several different IPTV services. One that comes to mind is the new Sky Angel IPTV service. I wonder if it will be possible to use it in this way, or if it will be limited to whatever Dish Network chooses to do.

Or Amazon like Tivo does. Yes, anything would be better than what they have up right now on the 622/722. You should be able to store rented movies on your HD, or on an EHD.

I doubt that they are expecting people to give up on traditional TV at this point. Something like this fills the HD space that BluRay and HD-DVD are trying to occupy. It really should be able to play standard DVDs, so that consumers can eliminate another box from the rack. Or have a giant...

I agree, this could be the future of TV. My kids might very well be interested in something like this - like when they are adults. I don't see myself or my wife watching TV in this way, unless they have some kind of serial playback feature. If I want to have the thing play 4 shows back to...

    VIDEO - Dish ViP222

Any chance the TR-50 will be useable as a client for this thing? Seems like that would be a natural extension of the technology. How about those so called "Smart TVs" from HP? Chances they could have everything they need to operate as a client built in right now?

Closeups: new Echostar TR-50 OTA HD Digital to Analog DVR Receiver

In the video the Dish Network guy said that they were looking at coming out with a Dish Network branded version of the device to support Dish branded IPTV services. Could be they are looking at it as a remote receiver for a multi-room setup, replacing the RF modulator currently used in the...

The TR-40 should also solve your problem. It can tune NTSC and output composite video. And it's free after $40 rebate from the FCC.

At least VOOM had most of the regular SD nets in addition to their HD offering. This system seems to be limited to movie enthusiasts. Now if they purchase their satellite bandwidth from one of the incumbent operators (Dish or DirecTV) then they may have something, since there would be no...

Closeups: new Echostar TR-50 OTA HD Digital to Analog DVR Receiver

Since it is digital and anlog OTA capable, it sounds like it has a different tuner chip in it than the one in the 622/722. Perhaps it can handle QAM as the 811 did? That would be a big plus with many people. Since it can handle analog, it could also be used to record anything put out by the...

And I really don't think, based on what I saw, that the "All HD pack" is really just all HD. You still have to get the basic AT100 SD channels, which bumps the price up to $49.99/mo after the first six months. Not a great deal if you ask me. For the extra 3 bucks or whatever it is, I'm sure...

That $29.95 HD pack looks to be exactly the same as the current introductory offer, which is AT100 plus the HD Ultimate Pack free for 6 months (after rebate). Currently only an 18 month commitment is required. When this offer hits it will be a 24-month commitment. And after 6 months it is...

EchoStar Introduces New High-Definition DVR Receiver for the HD Enthusiast

The 612 also makes perfect sense in the context of a standalone box that can stream content from another Dish receiver via ethernet, eliminating the need for an RF modulator for TV2. Sounds like a perfect role for a DLNA enabled device, like a PS3, or Xbox 360, or maybe the upcoming TR-50. I...

EchoStar Introduces New High-Definition DVR Receiver for the HD Enthusiast

Even the 811 had an RF remote. It is the best choice for putting the IRD in a closet out of sight, wired through the walls to your wall-mounted flat panel TV. Ahh, but I digress.

No need, if the IPTV works properly. OTA for locals, then IPTV for everything else. Bundle with DSL, or Wildblue, or XOHM, or whatever as the ISP. That would get you everything else, as well as targeted advertising which resides on the HD. Or you could still pair it with a basic Dish Network...

The LATV website seems to be down right now, but here is a brief but accurate description of what it is from Wikipedia: LATV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia One of their outlets is KLAS 8.2 digital subchannel in Las Vegas. It all started on KJLA channel 57 which is a rim-shot Los...

LATV is a program, produced here in the LA area, targeted to a young Hispanic English/Spanish speaking audience. Wouldn't surprise me if they had an outlet there in Vegas. What really excites me is the possibility of the TR-50 as Media Extender. According to the Engadget article, it will be...

    HD DVD at CES 2008

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if HD-DVD became the international standard and BluRay was adopted by the US, and the rest of North America by default. That's just the way things seem to go now a days. :(

Did they announce that the TR-50, or the TR-40 for that matter, would be capable of handling QAM sources? I suspect they don't, but who knows? If the TR-50 had cable card slots it could compete head to head with Tivo! If you don't want cable, connect it via USB port to a model 211 receiver...
