One would think that Dish has a long range plan related to spotbeams and the design of future satellites like QuetzSat-1 and E-16 but then again it does seem they make many decisions from a short term perspective. From a long term perspective it wouldn't make sense to put HD locals on a EA...

It looks like TP 21 at 61.5 W will be a CONUS TP and not used by E-12 as a spotbeam TP.

There's a chance that TPs 17, 19, 21 and 23 will be used for spotbeams on E-12 but if not, this might be an indication of the E-12 power and/or uplink limitiations.

This is interesting. Wonder if all the internationals at 61.5 W are going to be migrated to 8PSK to minimize bandwidth useage. It has been speculated that once E-15 is operational at 61.5 W that Dish will add back all the international programming so that EA subscribers don't need a second...

Being optimistic, perhaps this will lead to Dish getting ESPNU in HD after the dispute is settled.

This is what I thought Dish was going to do once they started clearing off the national programming from 77 W. Obviously this reduces/eliminates the need for mixed Arc setups. Of course by doing this, there is less space on 77 W for Dish to offer HD locals for EA markets.

Yes this is confusing because TP 4 is a spotbeam TP on E-14 that is suppose to be used right away.

I am wondering if Dish can solve some of the mixed arc problems by mirroring some of the SD locals from 110/119 W onto 77 W. Of course if they did this and subscribers were converted to pure EA setups they would have to swap out their non-MPEG-4 receivers.

Dish is suppose to get use of 24 TPs on the new QuetzSat-1 satellite at 77 W. My guess is that at least 16 of those TPs will be used for spotbeams and the rest could be used for Dish Latino package. Remember there are some limitations on Dish's use of 77 W in the U.S. because the Canadian DBS...

I would think that Dish will add more HD locals to 77 W with the space opened by moving CONUS programming to 72.7 W since when the QuetzSat-1 satellite is launched in August 2011 to 77 W, it will have a large number of spotbeams for locals so those HD locals will end up there anyway.

The only even numbered TP that E-12 can downlink is TP 24. I am almost positive that the TPs that E-3 could not downlink were TP 4, 6, 12, 26 and 28. I thought TP #2 was one but it was #12. Curious about TP 12. E-6 has had some failures so perhaps it can't provide signals from TP 12 either...

There has not been any new approvals posted at the FCC regarding E-6 operations but if those TPs and producing a signal, they must be coming from E-6 since neither E-3 or E-12 can provide a signal from them. I am assuming that the on-line updates at the FCC are not being updated quickly.

I believe these are the TPs that E-3 and E-12 can not provide signal from which means expect E-6 activation very soon. I believe TP # 2 is the fifth TP that is unuseable by Dish at 61.5 W currently.

It absolutely makes sense to load it with CONUS locals because eventually the QuetzSat-1 satellite, a large spotbeam satellite will be going there in 2011. In addition, Dish should be moving more and more EA CONUS programming from 77 W to 72.7 W as more TPs on Nimiq 5 are released to Dish. E-7...

I had read that DirecTV had turned off 5 TPs at 72.7 W (72.5 W) few weeks ago but hadn't caught up on Dish testing on these same TPs since I have been on vacation. It looks like the transition of these TPs from DirecTV to Dish at 72.7 W is going exactly how I predicted when it was announced...

    10/28/2009 3:15pm - Uplink Activity Report - 119 changes

With the conversion to 8PSK at 72.7 W with the Nimiq 5 satellite, how many MPEG-4 SD channels will Dish put on a single TP and shouldn't Dish be able to mix MPEG-4 SD with MPEG-4 HD to try to optimize bandwidth useage? What I mean by optimize bandwidth useage is that Dish could put 7 HD...

I believe that E-12 was designed to provide signals from TP 17 and TP 23. There might be power issues that prevent E-12 from providing signals from these 2. Dish can't use the other four TPs listed because of E-3 failures. I really think E-6 could help with these TPs if Dish would move it...

    Echostar 14 - 119W Spotbeams (Not Launched)

After looking at various launch schedules, I still think it is going on a Zenit by Sea Launch. Certainly there are capabilities concerns as well as engine supply issues with the Zenit but there is definitely room in the SeaLaunch schedule.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe a fair number of local additions are actually the Ion channel that is carried on local stations. They all are on E-7 at 119 W TP 14.

They almost always increase the Forward Error Correction (FEC) in 8PSK usually to 2/3 from 5/6 for QPSK as was done in this case to reduce rain fade affects.
