I think you hit the nail on the head because SA didn't just offer it just at start-up but continued to offer it for several years as a special offer about this time of year. So the appearance was not that SA was giving feebies, but that SA was seeking partners in its future.

I sent an email to ceo@echostar.com asking if Echostar had any plans for Christian and family programing on E*3. I told them that since I owned my dish and receiver I was curious as to whether it had any future.

Regardless of how good the switch may sound as far as the technology, the mission and etc., the truth remains that SA seemingly has zero concern for lifetime members. I have yet to be informed by SA that my lifetime subscription is nearing the end!

I think you hit the nail on the head. I was a positive witness for SA for years, but only one contact went for it . . . and that was at the last lifetime offer. People (including churchmen) seemingly prefer TV for entertainment and thus choose blasphemy and ball games over Christian programming.
