    jumping ship over broken promises?

Like I said, it eventually got worked out. Why they insisted on having someone come pick up the receivers when it was possible for me to mail them back the whole time I'll never understand. It was annyoing that I kept getting billed, but they did eventually make good and got me my refund...

    jumping ship over broken promises?

To try it out perhaps? When my Dish contract ran out, I tried out VOOM because it was the only place I could get free HD equipment. That's why I signed up with them. I had 2 HDTV's at the time, and I could get 2 receivers installed for free. Don't get me wrong, I loved VOOM, and I was sad to...

Voom announces intent to introduce a HD DVR in the summer

Until we get something from VOOM, I'm not believing anything. Of course I'd love to be surprised. Honestly, the only reason I'm not with DirecTV yet is because it would cost me about 1500 dollars to switch (HD Tivo, SD Tivo, Regular HD Receiver)

VOOM DVR Preview Video now ONLINE!

Yes....wonderful video.....but it means absolutely nothing until we finally get a date. Good job though. It was really nice having direct coverage of the convention.

VOOM Moves Target For DVR to Nov 04 or Earlier (?)

I mean if VOOM gets absorbed by E* or D*, I'll deal with it. I would be a lot happier at D*, but as long as we got to keep our hardware or got our hardware replaced with new stuff it wouldn't be that bad.

VOOM Moves Target For DVR to Nov 04 or Earlier (?)

They have to have a lease option, or a rent to own option. That's a must. The only other alternative would be to give a huge subsidy with a 1 year contract to cut the overall price in half. If VOOM would just tell us what their plans are for the Regional Sports Networks (especially Comcast...

Voom announces intent to introduce a HD DVR in the summer

I keep saying this...but if we don't get some DVR info soon, I'm seriously going to be looking elsewhere. I don't know how I'll make it this fall without one.

OpenTV and Ucentric to Show Whole Home Entertainment Solution

This is exciting, hopefully we'll get some real dates out of this. I had no idea the solution incorporated the use of existing phone and electrical lines as well as coax. That's pretty cool.

How many clients will you need or willing to pay for?

I'd glady trade in that huge receiver box for some smaller thing clients.

Voom DVR: To Lease or to Buy will make or break Voom

Either way....thanks Sean. It's nice to know it's coming sooner rather than later in any case.

Voom DVR: To Lease or to Buy will make or break Voom

Well if this is just a guess and you are only 50/50 would you care to quantify "not too far away"? Can you say 2004 or 2005?

Voom DVR: To Lease or to Buy will make or break Voom

I don't think 20 a month for the DVR is unreasonable. Since it will be the only receiver in the house you can probably say goodbye to the mirroring fees for your other active receivers. I have 2 other TV's in the house besides the main one, so I'll save 10 bucks a month on mirroring right...

How many clients will you need or willing to pay for?

Yes, I would love a rent to own option. That being said, I'll definitely be doing 1 DVR + 2 Clients. I'm assuming the mirroring fee will no longer exist since you only have 1 real receiver so that helps keep the cost down. Pretty much my wife is dying for this thing. VOOM needs to make this...

Voom DVR: To Lease or to Buy will make or break Voom

I'd sign into a 1 or 2 year commitment if they gave the DVR for rental at a decent rate.

You mean you guys haven't gotten yours yet?

    Voom Dvr

I agree...it's rare when I have the wife ready to buy into something no matter how much it ends up costing. She's completely sold on this system.

    Voom Dvr

So Ilya......that's not a hint saying this thing is really coming in October is it??? :shocked No.......I didn't think so. :no

I want an HD DVR SOOO BAD...tempted to switch.

It wouldn't be so bad if at least somebody "in the know" around here would drop a little info about it. The longer they go without talking about it, the more convinced I am that we'll ever see it.

    The Home Entertainment Server

Isn't this more or less what VOOM is promising with their box? I mean this has a lot of bells and whistles, but that's stuff VOOM can easily throw in over time (pictures, mp3's, home networking; etc)

Voom Networked Home Solution and Voom's DVR

So they aren't going to MPEG-4/WM9 until next year now??? Or do they mean 4Q 2004 for implementation and 1Q 2005 for the actual use of it?

    VOOM pvr/dvr

Is there any new info on this. Is it still schedule to come out this "fall"? Honestly, I just want to know if I can expect this to come out in 2004 or not.

Voom announces intent to introduce a HD DVR in the summer

There is the new version of the HomePlug ethernet technology that uses your home's electrical wiring. The 1.0 version doesn't have the bandwidth, but the new 2.0 is being called HomePlug AV and it's supposed to be able to stream live HD content over your home's electrical wiring just using wall...

What would you pay for VOOM DVR?

They won't tie the DVR to a programming package like that. At least I don't believe they will, and I think 24.99 is probably the max they'd charge per month. I guess I'd say that 29.99 per month is reasonable if that includes all of the thin clients and no mirroring fees. It would be nice...

Voom announces intent to introduce a HD DVR in the summer

I don't know how they'll do it, and I wouldn't expect it to be 9.99 per month. It would still be a great deal at 19.99 a month or even 24.99 a month.

Voom announces intent to introduce a HD DVR in the summer

If Voom wants to really attract new customers, they will lease that DVR when it's available and it will be at an attractive prcie. It has the potential to bring in new people in droves if it really delivers on what they say it will. It will be imperative they get that technology into as many...
