"DVR will be released by the end of the month!"

Actually it was "soon", then Summer 2004, then "this year", then March 2005, then "first half of 2005", then "this Summer". I called VOOM and questioned them on the new date. They said the DVR is scheduled for release in the first half of the year AND in the Summer. That means it will...

    jumping ship over broken promises?

Do you VOOM fans think it is fair or acceptable that VOOM's FAQ for people researching a VOOM purchase has at the top of its list that the DVR is coming soon? Why would VOOM have had this answer at or near the top of the list of frequently asked questions for 17 months if they were not trying...

DVR delay due to lack of content?

Sean lists the new movies available on the VOOM channels each month in the VOOM programming section. For March it was about 60 new movies between 11 channels, same for February, April has less (but the listing might not be complete yet). There are about 6 hours of new programming per month on...

Just got the Voom DVR (not really)!

So how can the Tivo recordings possibly look as good as a DVD? They would be as good as a non-progressive DVD player at best wouldn't they?

DVR delay due to lack of content?

Andrew, you make a very good point. I have argued before that VOOM without a DVR actually has LESS HD content than some other providers. This is due to a lot of HD network content being non-repeating and opposite other non-repeating HD content. This is why people with Dish or Cable with the...

Just got the Voom DVR (not really)!

Hi: When you "squeeze" the widescreen image with the VOOM box and then "stretch" it back with the TV doesn't that introduce artifacts into the picture?

    jumping ship over broken promises?

Do you really think the VOOM DVR is going to work properly when released? Look at VOOM's track record. It took them a over a year to get the basic features of their box working properly. They introduced new firmware that was worse than previous versions and had to stop firmware upgrades at...

    jumping ship over broken promises?

Welcome to Satguys. Most of the people who beat you up are newer members who have only been hearing the promises for around 3 months. They should ask themselves how they would feel now if they had heard the same promise 15 months ago and VOOM still had not delivered. They should also ask...

    jumping ship over broken promises?

Sorrry, I thought we were talking about a satellite company owned by a billionaire and a DVR first promised over a year ago.

    jumping ship over broken promises?

    1. VOOM is still getting paid. 2. We have been waiting more than 6 months.

    jumping ship over broken promises?

I thought he said this: "The DVR is real and working, again the features not working were the simple features all the hard work is done. I expect VOOM will meet its goal of getting the DVR out the door by the end of March. __________________ Scott " He also called them VOOM tech guys in...

BREAKING VOOM DVR News from CES!!!

According to VOOM there was no crisis. Has VOOM ever notified customers in any way that there was/is a crisis? VOOM has said all along that it is "business as usual" so why would anyone working on the DVR have had to stop or slow down?

From Post #41 of this thread: "The DVR is real and working, again the features not working were the simple features all the hard work is done. I expect VOOM will meet its goal of getting the DVR out the door by the end of March." This is from the guy with the inside connections to VOOM who...

VOOM DVR: So what's it going to be....RG-6 or Cat5?

I send HD wirelessly from my PC to a $250 LinkPlayer media server attached to my HDTV. It can take WM9, Mpeg2, HDivX. You just need the computing power in the box to be able to decompress the video file on the fly.

BREAKING VOOM DVR News from CES!!!

I am not saying that VOOM needed to call but they do need to communicate in some way when they change policies that effect their customers. They could send an email or letter or even just post the change on their web site. In this case, their plan from the start was to call charter members...

BREAKING VOOM DVR News from CES!!!

That is not entirely true. VOOM did not "give" the option. You had to know to call VOOM and then know to keep calling repeatedly if the first few CSR's did not know how to make the switch and told you that it was not possible. Even then some customers has to have their systems uninstalled and...

BREAKING VOOM DVR News from CES!!!

You are right - this is America - a nation of laws with specific laws (written and unwritten) about false advertising, "bait and switch" policies, and "reasonable expectations". Voom made written and unwritten claims about its service and many people spent money to purchase VOOM systems when it...

BREAKING VOOM DVR News from CES!!!

You forgot: "The VOOM DVR video from CES is an optical illusion/hoax. Even though the guy appears to speak from a VOOM booth about the VOOM DVR he was, in reality, filmed in front of blue screen and a video editor was used to make it look was he was in the VOOM booth in LAs Vegas. He was...

"DVR will be released by the end of the month!"

That's a new excuse: The guy is in the VOOM booth, talking about VOOM, saying "we" this and "we" that while he describes VOOM but subscribers are not supposed to believe him because he actually works for someone else.

"DVR will be released by the end of the month!"

See here: http://www.satelliteguys.us/2005ces/ VOOM said the DVR will be out in March. This is the only official statement from VOOM. There has been no press release to the contrary.

Hello March, nice to see you. Now give me my damn DVR!!!

Should we still hang in there after the 30 days announcement? Does your inside information take that into account?

Hello March, nice to see you. Now give me my damn DVR!!!

Last I checked my kids weren't paying me. If they were paying me for something that I promised to them then I would hope that I could set a proper example by living up to my promises.

Hello March, nice to see you. Now give me my damn DVR!!!

VOOM may be having their problems but they have never stopped charging customers for their service. Therefore, I would expect them to meet the commitments that they made to those customers. They absolutely promised the DVR by March and absolutely promised more HD channels by March.

DVR "special program" for charter members?

Hi: Now that VOOM is going to stick around and we can expect the DVR to be released on time in March, are charter members still going to receive the "special program" on the DVR that were promised over a year ago? At the time, some thought we would get our purchased receivers swapped for the...
