Back in September they turned on a new rig on the ISS. A modified Kenwood D710G. I believe power out is now 25 watts, from the previous rig's output of 5 watts. I'm using a unity gain discone antenna with a few dB of coax loss. The signal often pegs the S meter of my TS2000x at 60 over S9.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to watch any of the video online. But you can listen to the SSB and CW signals on the narrow band transponder. I've been listening since it went live. Very interesting to hear what the guys are using for equipment. Wish we had something like that...

I heard the signal twice yesterday, but way too weak to decode (discone antenna). In the past that antenna worked great.

With JT65 I heard both The Canary Islands and Japan on 6 meters, but wasn't able to work them. This is with a homebrew 1/4 ground plane! Got the new version with FT8 downloaded and I'm building a 4 element yagi.

I've been wanting to try FT8 but understood it to still be experimental and is only available as source code that needs to be complied. So haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Edit. Looks like it is now part of WSJT-X as of a few days ago.
