An Apology to the FTA Community

Thank you. Finally some logic. And besides the "head in the sand" and "Kool-Aid drinking" categories, don't forget the "half a brain" category. Virtually every quality forum or mailing list I have been involved with prohibits personal attacks, even if they are...

An Apology to the FTA Community

Relative to the statistics that "the overwhelming opinion in the community is against the open posting of feeds", I'm curious how you came to that conclusion? By reading posts on forums that have vocal members with that opinion? I suggest that you go over to Rick's forum, and ask the...

    HD on Ku Satellites

It's not that "there are not to many HD for the Ku side", it's mainly that the HD on the Ku side is generally not 24/7 channels, but instead it's either feeds of one kind or another or programming that temporarily goes FTA. So if you're interested in just storing a channel and expecting to go to...

An Apology to the FTA Community

Just wanted to add my "opinion", and that is that I consider Rick's forum a service to the hobby, and I don't believe for one second that the channels in question encrypted because of the post made over at Rick's forum. In fact, the message that immediately preceded the post suggested that the...

How do you measure a Ku motor to see if it's level?

Re U-bolts, my NEW DMSI version had U-bolts that were spread out so much that the ends were about 3/4" wider than at the middle. I had to bend them to get them to either go into the bracket or to be able to tighten the nuts on the other end, because it flared out so much that the didn't even...

    IP over DVB

Relative to the frame rates, that may or may not be true if you're referring to real time IP/DVB, but the file mode IP/DVB stuff I've seen was pretty much all ~30 fps, and was very good quality. So I think it's pretty much a question of the source, just like with any regular TS video. Like...

How do you measure a Ku motor to see if it's level?

This refreshes my annoyance with the NEW SG2100 that I just bought, compared with my OLD SG2100. With my OLD SG2100, the bracket is a very solid piece of metal, and all the surfaces were square. On several occasions, when I had the motor in the house, I just set the motor on a level table...

    FTA Dish vs Trees

Well if you had asked this 3 or 4 weeks ago, the best answer would have been to use the sun, at the time when AMC21 was undergoing a solar outage. Now, however, the sun will be considerably lower than where the sats are, but you can still use the sun for the azimuth, and use a digital level or...

How do you measure a Ku motor to see if it's level?

Perhaps not, but it's answering what I thought it was really asking. If the question is literally how to make sure it's level, then the answer is that you don't WANT it level. What I described gets the motor at the proper orientation in the north/south plane. Yes, you also need it to be...

    Indian Programming

There WAS an Indian channel (I forget the name) on one of the DN sats that was FTA for a couple years, however it went away a few months ago. At first I had it labeled as a cooking channel, because the first couple of times I tuned it in, it had some Indian cooking show on, but it was...

How do you measure a Ku motor to see if it's level?

The method I have used quite sucessfully of late, is to forget about using the scale on the motor, and forget about trying to find some flat surface on the motor to use an inclinometer on, and, as hinted at in the post by Adrian above, ie before the dish goes on, put the inclinometer on the bent...

    Another WEIRD problem.

Well, I was just about to re-open my FIRST wierd failure post, because I just had another one today. I have to think that in some way this multitude of problems I've run into in the past month or so have to be related. But first to this response... I do prefer, when possible to have the...

    SG2100..... Digipower vs DMSI?

The only thing that is clear to me at this point is that there is basically no way to tell what it is that you are buying, and if it's true for the 2100, there's no reason that it would be any different for other models.

    MT PBS switch to S2

What about the 5 or 6 S2 transponders on AMC21 that have 30000 SR? Of those 5 or 6 transponders, one comes in real strong, one comes in occasionally , but weak, and I don't get a hint on the other ones. I really get the impression that some of the footprints on the AMC21 transponders are a...

    SG2100..... Digipower vs DMSI?

Now, I'm more confused, re who makes what and which is original, etc. I just looked at the box that the NEW DMSI came in, and I noticed for the first time, that the box says both DMS International, _AND_ "Digipower". After 3 or 4 years, I no longer have the box that the original Digipower came...

Orbitron down. SAMI on the way...

Oh well. Too bad. Strange though, Orbitron sure seems to have a lot of different designs of dishes. Another person responded to me, and actually came here to look at the dish, however HIS Orbitron had 16 panels/ribs (4 quadrants with 4 panels) instead of 18. I think he mainly needed panels...

    SG2100..... Digipower vs DMSI?

Both my Digipower and DMSI versions of the SG2100 have the one button design, but the motors are drastically different. I have no idea of which of the 3 or so SG2100s (I think Motec also makes a version too) is the original, which are clones, and which are made by the original manufacturer...

    SG2100..... Digipower vs DMSI?

I bet I was probably one of those suggesting operator error too. If so, sorry. It wasn't until the past year or less that I even realized that there were more than one version of SG2100, and I've never had ANY problems with this Digipower thing, so I would have been skeptical of problems like...

    SG2100..... Digipower vs DMSI?

I'm curious what people's opinion of the various kinds of SG2100 motors are, particularly between the Digipower and the DMSI? As mentioned in other thread, I recently moved my 90CM Fortec to the top of my garage, and was having problems (which turned out to be mainly due to the flakey...

    Another WEIRD problem.

Just as an update to the above. I bought a new SG2100, a new diseqC switch, and 1000' of new copper coax. I thought that this HAS to fix the thing. I put the new motor up, and installed the new diseqC switch, but decided to try it out before running the new coax. DIDN'T WORK. Took the...

    DVB-S2 and PSK

Q THanks. Those diagrams are helpful for showing the data bit structure, which explains the part that I was having a hard time explaining. But before this gets more confused, again, comparing the improvement you get from 8PSK to QPSK, it's not twice, as in previous message, not 30%, and not...

Winter vs the FTA dish setup

As mentioned above, back when I used an actuator, I used to always run my BUD down to the western horizon when a snow-storm was approaching, but for the past 14 years, I've used this Ajax H-H, and if I ran that thing down to the horizon, the odds were that it wouldn't come back, due to the poor...

Ku LNBs prime vs. offset, whats the difference?

On reading the above couple of comments, and on thinking about this a bit more, I realized that I have been thinking about these issues all wrong. The issue I was mainly troubled by was resolution, and I was looking at the equations for resolution for sat dishes, but only thinking intuitively...

    DVB-S2 and PSK

This is another of those concepts that my aging brain has a hard time with, but I think that relative to the bitrate you can get out of the symbol rate, it's really a factor of ~1.5 not 2. Ie 4=2^2 and 8=2^3 , and 3/2=1.5 Or said another way, a 30000 SR (3/4FEC) QPSK signal produces a 41Mbps...

    SCETV on 63 West

I'm showing the freq as being closer to 11961. I can lock it between 11959 and 11963, but cannot lock below 11959 or above 11963. My LO might be off by a MHz but I'm pretty sure it isn't off that much. Anyway, I think the 11957 is probably a bit on the low side.
