most channels on 30W are FTA, just a few are scrambled, and most channels are in Spanish (like Cubavision) or Arabic. If you are getting many scrambled channels, and just a few (FranceInfo, France24, CNews) are ITC and in French, you might be on 34.5W

I respectfully disagree. I can get FTA on an 18" Dish 500. Is it good? No it's not. But it does work to some degree. A 24" dish will work, it just won't work well, and won't get everything and will not do well with thick clouds and rain. But it should have no problem pulling it the NHK mux on...

can you post a list of those channels that scan in, as well as the associated frequencies, polarity and SR? I'm think you're getting some Dish Network stuff, either from 119W or from 129W (or 121W if there's still anything there... not sure)

Welcome to Satellite Guys! 30"is a bit small, particularly for Maine which is a bit on the edge of some footprints. It is doable but you might miss some of the more interesting channels, and lose the rest when there's heavy rain. If you can find a 36"or 1 meter dish that would be much better...
