5G and FCC eyeing 12 GHz sat bands...

So does that mean FTA Ku users will have to build faraday cages around their dishes like the C-band users do because their filters won't protect 100% against terrestrial 5G? I can see FTA users posting multiple threads of faraday cages for this dish or that dish. I used to want to invest in FTA...

All the SES 4K channels will be going fiber only on January 1, 2021.

When I first started frequenting SatGuys in the early 00's, the big advantage of the Bud, aside access to both C and Ku FTA, was the fact that people could subscribe to ala carte programming with little picture quality reduction compared to the pizza dish companies. I remember people bragging...

All the SES 4K channels will be going fiber only on January 1, 2021.

Once they quit selling programming to individual C-band dish owners, I knew C-band was going downhill. You can get a selection of OTA channels FTA with the big dish along with some religious and foreign content, but it's a dying medium. I used to want to get into the big dish about 14-15 years...

    Super UHD video camera 12K 12,288 x 6,480 P

Will 2nd great Depression bring more FTA time stations comes on the air?

I would think it would be easier to start a streaming network out of one's basement. Anything involving transmission over satellite seems less of a priority nowadays, especially with the costs involved.

    Better than HEVC codices?

I'm sure 8K is already standard in Japan or else they wouldn't be broadcasting the 2020 Olympics in 8K. If you want to know the future of technology, look to Japan. They had HD (MUSE) back in the 80s. It was an analog standard with not quite 1080 lines, but it was way ahead of anything we had in...

    presentation and questions

I've never known of a mod to change them. They've kind of fallen into obscurity now. After the service went down, they were only useful for OTA reception. As better tuners came available at cheaper prices, they were most likely ditched to eBay or disposed of. They're really just a relic of the...

My father used to own two of them. They were good while the satellite service lasted. They made for good OTA tuners after its demise, but they were never able download guide data or scan in additional channels. They're only good for the area they're mapped to for OTA purposes. I loved the Voom...
